lol, actually the ranking system has not changed that much. It's just been detailed for people who are interested. The 2 real changes are

1) That it takes a lot longer to get to a high score. Rankings were very variable, now they are much more stable.

2) When you play newbies you get a reduced score change.

I am never going to get my head around this, was there a need for change for high numbers, some of the less academic people may not be able to recognise these 3 digit numbers ;)

It was broken. It got fixed.

2 serious problems with old rankings, people could easily cheat their way to the top (a lot more difficult now), and people's ranking was too volatile.

Good honest players will be higher in the rankings. Hardly any of the best player's were interested in ranking. If you don't believe that compare the rankings table to the tournament table. (Even I can get top of the rankings!)

Yes it's going to take people a while to get to used to it. The complexity of the rules nor the scoring system have hardly changed, they've just been detailed.

If you're confused by the rankings help page then don't go into the detail, simply know you gain points by winning, lose points by losing, same as before.

The range is 500-1000. People are graded according to their rank, 500s, 600s etc.

Initially it will be slow for the first people to get to higher scores, but as they get higher they will drag other people with them!

Come on who can get to 700 first?

I can see it might have looked odd at first. Everyone starting on odd numbers eg 642.3

I was trying to be fair so I added 550 points to your original ranking. This meant all players would start in the same position! But of course everyone started with odd numbers :(

Once people get into groups eg 700s,800s etc it will be a lot more stable, and rankings will be a lot more meaningful.

(If necessary the rankings could be slightly tweaked)
