A great match. 8US was very exciting despite the scoreline. Phil had a 7 baller in frame 2, and I got a run out in frame 4. Overall though, he was more precise and clinical. I had more of the luck in 9US, mainly thanks to a couple of unfortunate fouls by him, 1 in particular in frame 4 when he potted the 9 in middle pocket only for the white to go in in the opposite corner pocket. At 2 - 2 (3 - 6 in the match) I was hoping to clinch the 9US part, only to break in the last frame and set up an easy 2-9 combination for him by the corner pocket, which he duly took. I would say however I saved my best (though it wasn't quite good enough) for 8UK, which provided the most tactical play of the match. I took the first 2 frames, one of which thanks to a foul from him, I managed to clear, to make it 5 - 7 in the match. The comeback was really on, or so I thought. The third frame took the longest and was the most tense, tactical frame of all. Quite scrappy at times, lots of snookering by me, and lots of balls covering other balls. The play eventually all centered around the bottom left corner pocket for what seemed like an eternity.

After umpteen snookers by me, which, to his absolute credit he escaped all, I tried for 1 more tapped snooker. Unfortunately, I just tapped it a little too hard, hence giving him access to pot the last 2 reds and the black. Comeback over. We shared the final 2 frames, to make the match result 9 - 6 to Phil, but a great match which had a bit of everything.
