Incredibly frustrating. I don't take kindly to having to roll my software back to inferior versions
On a side note, is anybody else having problems with java window constantly crashing? I installed some Windows automatic updates last night so not sure if that's got anything to do with it.

The game is most likely written using the java computer programming language & javascript. If you didn't have the option to update or roll back to older versions then you wouldn't be able to play the game at all.
The latest version of java version 8 update 45 onwards has different security parameters from version 7.
Calling the older versions 'inferior' is a little strange as they are the executable ones which has either been patched up or made more bug free. Hence they work now with the Version 8 issue.
Java is updated every so many months and usually all have an expiry date. The problem or catastrophic scenario will be when the version 7 become obsolete and do not work. The positive could be that that will never happen plus Version 8 update 31 works too (phew). Just remember when it prompts you to update click on LATER every time.
Games are written in a few different programming languages, used to be VB (Visual Basic) May have used it when in college on the old Nimbus pc's. Nowadays more C++.
I'd like to see this game written in C++ just out of curiosity
Others: javascript, SQL (used for locating data from large databases), Objective-C (apps for the i0S), C# Primary language for Microsoft platforms and Services.

You can download the updated version for Java 7 Update 79 I believe it is now on the above link. (follow the windows online section).
* ignore prompts to update afterwards.

He's on the case behind the scenes if that's anything to go by.
I have been about and the staff have kept me regularly updated with the situation. I'm still striving to resolve any critical issue as quickly as possible, but updating and checking the forum isn't easy.

The biggest problem is with new people in ming to the site and not being able to play, thus leaving never to return.

OK chaps, just figured out how to get Java 7 v80 running in Safari again. This is definitely the smoothest way to play the game. Forget Firefox or Chrome.
Uninstall new Java using the following command in terminal:
sudo rm -fr /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
Download Java 7 v 80 from Oracle site and install
Go to Safari prefs and on security tab click "Website Settings" (bottom one)
on left hand side list click on Java, and on right hand side set www.funkypool.com to "always allow"
Job done

I've heard IE is the worst browser and sometimes slow so will stick to Opera and Adam likes Safari
