Not everyone is going to agree with this as always, but I feel there has been some changes that shouldn't of been made.

tournaments? they are an absolute joke now, one going off every ten minutes. First rounds starting off at semi finals! they should be reverted back to every hour like before, so when you join you know its going to be worth entering.
also making tournaments ranked is a bad choice, alot of high ranked players and even mid ranked wont join them because of the reduction in rank, if they loose to a lower ranked player i.e. 820 vs 710 the loss is crazy. if you go up against a intermediate in a marathon tournament its 12 points gone if you don't win. bit harsh considering you only gain 1 point if you do win and why even bother if you have tournament points now??? makes no sense at all...tournament and ranked games should be kept separate. there is a difference of being encouraged to do something and forced. any fun has been taking out of tournaments now.

Game types i believe there is to much to choose from! look at the site a few years ago with the choice of just the 3 game modes! it was thriving with games to play! now your lucky to see more than 15 games available.. and that's across every game type combined.. making it very hard to get a game.

rank deduction should of stayed at the 800 mark and not gone past it. a incentive would be nice to see to encourage, something like a weekly/monthly prize or a trophy that can be won from other players for beating them the following period..just like football...

this site is dying a slow death and i say its down to unnecessary changes... there is an old saying " if its not broke dont try to fix it " this site was never broken,,,

alot of players i have spoken to have agreed with the above when speaking to them about the site

and before someone says things change and go on...yeah im all for that but only if its worth doing...

Saying "If it's not broke don't try to fix it" is such a pointless statement. If nick had applied that years ago there would be no funkysnooker, no straight, no killer, no 9ball, no US8. That's just for starters.

I do mostly agree with tournaments not being right at the moment. However i very much doubt it's going to change. Shame.

the rank deduction keeps ppl playing, in the past ppl would get pro and just sit on it looking smarmy playing friendlies and tournis.. agree with everything else tho.

I was watching someones YouTube video from a few years ago that was like a walkthrough of Funkypool and the guy had 8 available 8US games to join. Now you don't get to choose what you want to play you take what you can get in any game type. Thing is, let's say you take away the Arcade game types right. Its not going to cause an influx of players that left because Arcade was introduced, it'll just mean players that enjoy Arcade will leave. Changing anything on the site won't bring new people or old people back to the site because how are they going to know about changes if they aren't on! I see enough people with Premium these days that combined with the advertising revenue there must be some left after expenses to invest in some marketing. That's the only way to increase the number of players which in turn increases the number of Premium members which increases site revenue. You have to spend money to make money.

P.S people didn't leave the site because of new things introduced, they left because over time, people get bored of things. Once you've achieved all that can be achieved you move on. The problem has always been the lack of new members joining.

I agree, people have left partially down to 'getting bored', losing to the 'obvious players' time and time again. Some wont even bother entering tournaments if they see who else have entered. I think this transparency should/could be removed, so no one knows who has entered or not.

I think there's way too many tournaments, should be even hour to get more of an influx of players. I think the new once a month competitions will be great and hopefully a huge success, word of mouth is usually the best way to advertise, maybe start a proper Funkypool membership make players feel they belong to something, revamp the cue choice, tweak colours a bit more funkyish, just some ideas if I were trying to market the site.

Change comes with time, the time is the present.

As much as I love clans, I think they have played a big part in killing the site. A lot of people just play clan games now or just post and read the forums (normally clan related). You find people sitting around waiting for opponents to log in and they wont play a tournament while they wait in case they have to leave half way through and lose rank. It wasn't too bad when there was just the one league, we didn't have as many games to play then..... now we have 3 leagues including individual leagues for all 3, which means you could end up with 9/10 sets of games to play. It takes up a lot of time when before, people were playing tournaments in that time.

I don't think the amount of tournaments make a difference really, I only play the hourly ones unless I'm out early then I might join the odd micro. If you don't like them just don't play them.

Absolutely shocking now a days, past few days ive joined tournaments at around 1am ish and i won both without 1 person entering. When there is a 10m till start there is around 3-4 mini tourneys when theres around 3:30 sec left on the timer. Should bring out an oldschool.funkypool.com/ site. for the vets?

It's very simple why pool is dying.

1. The world has moved on to Facebook/ Twitter and smartphones. That is where more and more people spend their time online and it keeps people away from pool. It's just a fact of modern life in 2013.

2. Clans have taken over the site. If I was a brand new member and logged on here and saw no available games to play (because everyone is in private clan games) or no one to talk to (clan members are in pm or forums with eachother) I'd run a mile! If there are no new members stopping on here then the game stands still. If the game stands still it gets left behind and it eventually dies. As we can now see, the game is dying. It's not rocket science.


Anyone who thinks it is to do with extra tournies or rank are wrong. It might matter to a few hardcore players but your average newbie won't care about that stuff. They just want to play a game and maybe chat to some people. Clans make sure that it doesn't happen for them so they leg it.

Not really. If clans didnt exist then think of how many people (Guessing around 50+ or so) wouldnt be on the game. Clans are vital part of the game as you cant be guaranteed of playing the person you want to play.

What's better? Keeping the same 50+ people happy or breathing new life into the site and making it an attractive place for newbies to stay. Without a lot of new members the site has no future.

Tbh I think alot of people have gotten sick of the site due to all the arguments in the chat rooms and the forums, which alot of the time is clan related admittedly.
Don't intend to defend clans but its not only clans fault. Some people may have said this all ready only skim read the above posts lol.

Just need to face the facts that the site is old and needs a new fresh look. Maybe a 3d downloaded multiplayer version? With a sort of Campaign

I like that idea. May or may not have any overall effect but it would be, I imagine, a relatively simple change for nick to make with his reduced spare time so that we could find out.
