I wouldn't want to buy premium because of an ad, if it wasn't there i would probably be fine.

since the game is free to play, I wouldn't want to pay for cues personally as thats all the £10 is worth to me.

Try going in task manager > processes and disabling the Flash Player plugin (I think that's what it's called) and most of the animated adverts just become grey-boxes with a lego brick in them. The normal still adverts aren't affected but as they don't generally cause lag that shouldn't be a problem and because they are there it isn't like you are doing anything dodgy like advert blocking tools, which block them all.

It's risky though, about 1 in 5 times you do it it will crash your game completely. You won't go not responding, but the game will just freeze on your move until you log out. I've had that happen and not happen on both sites, seems completely random when it does . Cures the lag every time though.
