this isn't a complaint.. but was just wondering do people (from the UK) actually play a carry in your visit at any point after a foul? because in the league i play in we only get the carry on the first shot after a foul, not at any time. just wondering what rules everyone plays

Play the same rule as you do mate, first shot after the foul on any color ball.

well we have 2 sets of rules in uk as far as i know.. 1 is world rules which suck because you have to make sure if u dont pot a ball needs to touch the cushion.. and we have basic pub rules which is the best one.. i play in both leagues but hate the world rules really..

Monday nights 2 dont carry, generally its a great leveller and basically the top players can be beaten.

Thurday nights 2 shots carry , best player tends to win and is generally a more tactical game, them that say that 2 shots is easy are talking dog bob, end of the day dont give 2 shots away, or try and get 2 shots.

Next monday season they were trying to implement one of the world rules in which if u pot on the break u can nominate any colour im not sure if it has been voted on cos ive packed in mondays, both pool leauges are going downhill because pubs are closin downor turning into meal pubs, shame really 10 year ago they were thriving

well the rules i play, whoever they belong to lol.. free ball on the first shot (so basically a carry on the first) and after that normal play resumes. but we have to either pot or hit a cushion, but hitting a cushion can be before contact with the object ball, no need to after then (unlike 8US on here). the rules i play basically contradict 8UK lol, thats why i thought it was worth making a thread, because theyre so different. but im sure others' rules are quite similar to it

Its ridicholous pal, im 33 now and started when i was 16 in leauge at that time rotherham were biggest leauge in england it had something like 50 teams competing on a monday, and on a thursday ther were 24 and teams waiting for one to pull out for the next season, nearly every pub in town centre had a team, and the banter were brilliant, last year when we went to monthly meeting a complaint had been lodged against us cos one of us swore in an away game, and were generally rowdy, so him who made it were at meeting and we asked him what wed done, and he explained that someone was having there dinner at side of where we were playing, why ever they were sat there in first place i dont know, and it were 2 for a fiver microwave crap, and wer paying £3.00 a pint i were livid, its gettin to point where its not worth goin out and playing

I know how you feel mate , I will very rarely find a pint for less than £2.70 round here , infact i dont think ive been in a pub in the last 12 months where ive payed less ....I went to cornwall a couple of years ago and had one for £2.10 but it was watered down , more water than lager to be honest

i play darts on a monday around the board we pay 2pound 80 a pint in our own pub and same round most pubs weve gone to 2 divisions so our leagues are doing ok but its shame about amateur sports dropping in numbers these pub leagues can keep a pub in buisness as there guaranteed revenue once a week especially on mondays where pubs round ours our dead but when i use to play pool and when i play in pub we play 1 shot carry but dont play ur ball has to hit cushion after hitting a ball

World Rules: http://www.epa.org.uk/wrules.php

Blackball Rules: http://www.wpa-pool.com/web/index.asp?id=120&pagetype=rules

I'd say World Rules, certainly when I played them, were more prevalent in England than Blackball rules which were more dominant than World Rules in Scotland. However, the IPA tour have just switched to Blackball rules which seems to be more progressive. I would expect most EPA affiliated leagues to also make the switch.

I've have played under both banners for many years at international level and would say that Blackball rules are the better rule set by a distance.

Shut up you burk... World rules are the mutts nuts. I guarantee youre one of these players that likes to roll up behind a ball lol.
I play world rules weekly and have done for 8 years and in comparison to the 'old rules' as we call them, i find they make you think more and are all round better for an even game
