I must admit I enjoy a sociable now and again but fear for my funky future often!
Could there be a feature to ban yourself short term from posting? Say 12 hours!
I for one would much appreciate it!

only person who can add another option is nick but instead of 12 hours your self-banned until you decide to un-ban yourself. when you self ban you should be able to send more than 20 messages, still edit about me etc.
it may help others who want to argue on the forum.

Wouldn't need to be 12 hours, maybe an hour lol, try keeping angry at someone when your not talking or referring to them for an hour, it's laborious

Are you lot serious? Most of you that have posted here are adults..... and you are telling me you need 12 hours to calm down if someone upsets you?
Why not act like the grown up that you are ignore, log out and come back tomorrow! Or just not react to something that has upset you? If a thread or comment is breaking rules then it will be dealt with according to the site rules?
Can't see any good of this idea IMO

I don't see any good in this either. It is possible to hold back on what you really want to say to someone on here (i have been doing it a lot on this account as i have learned from previous bans)
In real life it is not so easy... especially for me!

Need 12 hours to calm down? what you on about? Nothing to do with being angry. I want it to stop drunk posting.
How on earth could there be no good? There can be only good as there certainly isnt a downside to it. Simply another function available to funky users.
As you obviously were unable to read my original post properly I'll take the adult jibe with a pinch of salt.

Wow!!
I won't reply to you as I have had a glass of wine tonight I might say something silly!
Again what is the real reason for this? Are you saying you can't control what you post after a drink? Please explain more and I might buy into this as I love a beer when playing pool.
I hope the reply doesn't get as offensive as the last I'm only giving my opinion

doesn't hurt to have it as an option though, i mean you don't have to use it so its a win for drinkers and a win for you.
i would use it after a big argument (mainly on the Sinners thread) or if i want to speak my mind in a negative fashion.
Once due to the arguments (when i was FCL runner) i actually asked clooneman to revoke my rights, he said he could but i wouldn't be able to edit about me or send more than 20 messages so i declined a self-revoke.
call it childish if you like but then if thats the price i would pay not to reply and get an official revoke then why not use it?

everyone of us gets angry sometimes, when i get really angry i can take hours to calm down (alone) but on funky i just want to speak my mind to relieve the anger but if i said how i really feel i could get revoked (or worse) and its hard to resist so when i am angry i would just mute myself for 12 hours (not that i talk much in real life either).
because everyone is different, take the good game and random penalty discussions, its split 50-50, some would be able to calm down easily but others would not.
on snooker one of my friends (long time ago) got banned for speaking his mind as someone else spoke about his family, i mean i get upset when people tell me to 'get a life' because i can't have one so can't imagine how mentioning family could keep you cool

When I get offended by folk insinuating my completely valid request is childish then yes i tend to become offensive.
Look I'm not saying this is a function everyone would need, i'm simply saying I tend to post nonsense when im drunk and one of these days I can see myself getting into bother. Look at the snooker squad thread from saturday for example, nonsense.
An extra function which is completely at the users discretion wether they use it or not can not be bad. As I say this simple idea would stop a lot of arguements, if you feel thats a reason to use it, or be suitable for the reasons I originally brought up. Either way its all good!

I can see the idea working for the forums, but if your really annoyed with someone in game you cant block yourself from giving abuse in game.( unless your on ignore from the opponent i assume)

yup where a "disable chat box" function can be useful.

Unless admin want to ban you, there wouldn't be any reason not to implement it. It's players offering to be pro-active and save themselves from saying something they'd regret. It'd clean up the forums, and surely you want that? Or are you scared you'd be out of a job

Couldn't agree more.
Yes we all get angry and most do have a wine or three in front of the computer but to have to lock yourself out of posting or chatting is really defeating its own purpose.
If you can manage to get your angry self to go and click on a button to disable your abilities, then surely you don't need any more energy to simply restrain yourself from posting nasty things.
If you're still fired up, then go for a walk, have a glass of water or go and yell at the TV

Again not the reason I would want it in!!!
To repeat again I want it to stop drunk a posting. A decision I'd make before a night out not when I'm actually drunk. There is none, zero, zilch downside to this what so ever so as someone said before, why would mods in particular be so against this.
I do however love the optimistic view you have of people that this should never be required but the fact there are mods needed at all answers that theory.
