I hate them, I absolutely hate them!!

Every tourny I enter now I always get a bye. I only enter them to get games most of the time as there is no one playing normal games anymore.

I have come up with a suggestion. When entering a tourny could an option not be given to specifically request no byes?

Let the players that are only entering for tournapoints take the byes and let folk that only enter them because they want to play games play!

I care nothing of ranking or tournapoints or tournament wins, I only enter as the able players only ever enter them.

Is this possible? I know that if everyone says no byes then there will obviously be some but for folk wanting to play games on this site and not sit listening to the drivel in the chat room for sometimes half an hour till the next round.

I for one would always use this option!

p.s. Did I mention this was made because I HATE byes!!

They can be irratating

bet you cringe when someone says "bye bye!"

depends for me, sometimes i want BYES (e.g. if i am in an Orig rank game) but most of the time i want to play.

If i ever get a BYE i hope its a DQ-BYE so i can get some free points

draws should be random however i like the idea of a seeding system so the top ranked person in the tournament would get a BYE and the lowest ranked would get a game and if it worked the top 2 ranked players would meet in the final.

Yeah I agree with this, sometimes I only join to rank up as well but can't when you get a bye.

However what if too many people select this option & a bye has to be given to someone and could cause complaints.

Other than this let down it's kind of a good idea.

I love byes myself. Anything that gives me the opportunity to play fewer games and thereby increase my chances of winning a tournament has to be good While I'm waiting, I can practice by whacking balls around the practice table or trying a game or two of 9 ball.

Byes are a fact of life here on funkypool. The only cure would be to limit the number of players to a power of 2, which would be unfair (perhaps). And still then, if one of those 4/8/16/32/64/etc were offline at the start of a round, they'd be disqualified, and their opponent would receive a bye.

Specifically requesting no byes is an interesting idea, and I'm sure it's come up before. Wouldn't work all the time though; if there were 66 players (which means 62 byes and 4 first round players) and 5 of them requested no byes, one of them would still be disappointed. The seeding system is a good idea too, although maybe one of the great things about the tourneys as they are is the randomness of who you may or may not get. You might get byes in the first two rounds, or you could get the top 2 ranked players in the first two rounds. Brings back memories of when many players took part in tournaments and you could get literally anyone, it was a minefield and a 2- or 3-hour journey to win a tournament.
