gg = good game
1. Is every game a 'gg' (irrespective of whether you win or lose)?
2. Is it only a 'gg' when you win?
3. Is it ever a 'gg' when you lose?
Please make this topic only open to logical points of view; made with reasonable structures from begining to end.

I think saying "gg" is good manners amongst other things, but then again if i was to play someone and it was clear they never had a good game then i could see their point of not saying "gg".
I myself say it usually after every game win or loss, but there is times i will not say it at all, usually i am tired or in a bad mood .
Have even seen myself on occasions saying "gg" when i lose but i won't say it when i win haha

Yeah, game sportsmanship in my opinion. I say 'gg' after every frame, no matter what

I tend to say it after evry rack.
However I could say during the frame...
"Oh this is going bad"
"Oooooh this looks like a close one"
Or things to that nature.
BUT if someone starts being aggressive towards me or telling me I fluke or whatever I will not say gg as I believe it annoys them more, I always appologise when I fluke so if I don't you will know I haven't fluked.
If someone says gg before I have finished, I just say "You seem to have a lot of faith in me, unlucky trying to put me off now run along." that's after I beat them.
Only exception to this is 9 arc as the games can be over in a matter of seconds I tend to say it after the run of games has finished.

As long as the opponent isn't shouting abuse off in the chat then saying gg is pretty much standard for most people I'd say.
I remember once when my game wouldn't let me type in the chat box for whatever reason and people would get really annoyed that I didn't say gg back to them.
I guess it just depends on how much you think it's necessary.
It wouldn't bother me if you chose not to say gg but it does no harm

I love it when this topic comes up as I'm completely different to everyone else with my opinion on the "gg" (with the exception of spinner)
"gg" means good game. What's wrong with saying it half way through a game (For example, a long safety battle with great shots from both parties can constitute a gg response half way though)
I personally very rarely say gg at the end of the game, as more times than not, I don't believe it should be said if it was a poor game.
This did crop up on snooker quite recently, and does tend to crop up once in a while.

I think the problem people have with opponents saying gg before the end is that, by its common use (it's normally said at the end), it implies that the game is over. But if the game is still in play, then players assume that it is only being said with the hope that it distracts and causes a miss.

I say gg and gl regardless of how the rack went but if they play well I put wp or wd and if it wasn't a good game I normally just say ul as I am to nice to say you sucked in that game lol.
But seriously I get irritated when people don't say gl and gg.

Unless i know the person i'm playing. I generally will wait until they say it. If they say 'gl or gg', i'll follow suit. If they don't and we have a silent game, i have no problem with that

I agree, but 99.97% of the time I enter a tournament I will say gl, and then gg after every frame. I do not mind whether people attempt to enter it early to put me off, they will just receive a 'ul' at the end of the game. I think it's polite to say gg after a game you play against someone online regardless.

so in essence the tournament debate is flawed as theres always someone you dislike or dislike you so you can't say it all the time
im with mrmagic on the guest front, id say theres only about 25% of decent guests on the site whether they are good sportsmans or stay in the game room for a while, the other 75% tend to either leave games early or be abusive towards you so im wary about saying gl or gg to a guest, the genuine guests that are complete newbies wouldn't know what gl or gg actually means.

Good point. I think your stats are probably true, but I find that if i say 'gl' to guest first, they are surprised and generally say 'ty gl'. This pleasantry at the beginning of the (friendly) game sets it up perfectly for a laugh over missed shots and compliments for good shots.

- I say gg after every frame (i.e. after the winning shot has been taken and no sooner).
- If it's been a truly awful game by both players, then maybe I won't, and the opponent will realise that too. But I probably still will anyway, and then qualify it with a comment afterwards.
- Regardless of the quality, people usually say gg at the end of a game, after it has finished. Therefore, saying it before the game is over on your opponent's turn is bad sportsmanship IMHO, as it presumes that he/she is gonna win, and let's face it, if you're not gonna concede the frame (which you can't), have manners and let your opponent finish it in his/her own time. That's just my personal view.

Don't get me wrong, I won't say gg half way through a game purely because people moan about it.
However if you get put off by 2 letters then surely you need to look at your own game before blaming your opponent. If I put "ns", you wouldn't be put off, so why would 2 different letters put you off anyway? I just find it daft that people use it as an excuse for losing.

Interesting point... I think though that it's the intentions of the person saying gg that are central to it. Consider the difference between these scenarios:
- Someone pots their last ball and they're on the black. Opponent says "ns".
- Someone pots their last ball and they're on the black. Opponent says "gg".
- Someone pots their last ball and they're on the black. Opponent says "ns".

I had a guy saying gg every time he missed a shot a few days ago. I just replied gg ul and beat him every time, started saying it back when I missed a shot at the start of a frame...Was fun :P
I generally only say it if the opponent does although I may make the first move if they have played particularly well or been very unlucky.
Sometimes, I'm ignorant as hell though...
