Why is there a speed tournament for straight pool but no marathon?
On snooker for alll types of marathons they do 1 frame as normal untill quarter finals, i was thinking for straight marathons do 1 frame untill semi final then first to 2 for the semi and first to 2 or 3 for final?

not very good at straight anymore, but i do think it is a good idea, i think they should drop it in instead of 9 ball arcade speed, bit of a quick, flukey tournament.

thing is, straight is long enough without a marathon.
thats why it never got implemented same with Power or Straight Micros simply because its too long
Edit: read this, almost similar

But then we could drop a friendly tournament as we have loads of those.

Shouldn't a Straight Marathon game really be one longer game rather than race to 2 frames?
Say like first to 50, 60, 75, 100 or whatever points?
I believe real life competetive Straight games are usually first to 100 or 150 points but that is probably too long.

Yeah Chris you are right i played in competetive straight for about a year but any game i played was first to 75 or first to 150. I dont think it goes any higher than that in real life even though players basj in 250+. Im on a stupid 193 haha

To me, every straight tournament feels like a marathon......maybe just increase semis and final to a race to 2.
I realize that in real straight, the games are just longer, but I fear that players will leave mid-game once someone is leading 45-3...

Maybe. But then thats up to them in the same way that you see plenty of players, including good ones, leaving Marathon matches in other game types at say 4-0 or 4-1 down. Would make it quicker than having to start a second or third game again from scratch.

I do like the idea of making the games 1st to 50 points

true, 1 thing i like about pool, no concede button
id say raise to 50 points if your planning on doing this without the 1st to 2 frames.
if players leave its annoying but if you have option ticked you can carryon running until you miss or timer beats you so leaving isn't an issue really.

Time would remain at 20seconds as others are bar the speeds. Don't really see why a race to 50 is being thought about - lower ranked members such as the 650's will get detracted away from straight and with them being 95% of the only ranked games going it could end up not being played bar tournys.
Keeping at 20sec shot clock, and turning it into a 2/3 frame tourny would continue the marathon idea and keep others still attracted to the game.

20 seconds - yes
The advantages to a single longer frame are that a) it makes it less likely that one sizeable run will decide a game, particularly between two evenly matched players b) it favours the 'better' player which seems to be the underlying principle behind all Marathon tournaments on here and c) it keeps it as a different format from every other game type thus giving variety.

And everyone wants to see a bit of variety :-)

on a different note, highest break of the day - can there be an achievement of some sort for that? think it's a bit pointless having the score board up there if you receive nothing for it, not sure what rest feel.

You can't do that without creating a whole separate ranking system for each number. It just isn't viable. Something similar was discussed on power over on snooker, I'll dig that thread up with my explanation for why that wouldn't work.

My explanation there sort of applies to this, can adjust it accordingly though.
