me and another player both have one ball left each and the black, my ball is covering his in the pocket and all that has happened is about 100 fouls in a row... what would you do..

Do you have a screenshot of it so i can give you a 100% accurate answer because it depends where the 2 balls are at (angle) and how close they are at the pocket.

his ball was pretty much in the pocket and mine was covering all angles of where the ball could go

I would have tried to play the towards the pocket in question.

I think it's trying to suggest there might need to be a way to avoid stalemates - perhaps a mutual rerack option

That would be a very good addition. Stalemates can be very annoying, especially in tournaments.

Mutual rerack option would have its own implications, especially where the match is in a tournament! Time restraints where the time limit has been specified in a tournament round.
I think that it would be a valuable contribution to the site, but the pros and cons woulkd have to be considered.

I think players would just need to accept that in tournaments if a re-rack (which would be extremely rare anyway) was needed then the odds on both players being dq'd would just increase accordingly.
If either player didn't want to have the re-rack then they would still have the option of playing the high risk shot which would avoid the stalemate but which might in all probability mean they lose the rack.
Stalemates are a feature of 8 Ball and playing for one from a completely hopeless losing position is a skill in itself.

The best way to avoid this would to play the balls in a way that your opponent is still snookered (by playing a legal shot), but at the same time you will be able to place the cue ball in a position to pot, but to give a more accurate analysis we would need a screen shot or something like that

If it's 8 Ball UK, and your black is over the pocket, and his ball is in front of the black so that you can't hit your ball, then if he fouls, you can plant your black in because you can hit any ball on the table.
If it's the other 8 ball, that's different
