It is in the real rules of 9 ball, and it'snot disrespectful, it's even more skill in snookering 3 times in a row than potting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9_ball#The_rack
check out the winning section there

A player wins in nine ball by pocketing the 9 ball at any time in the game in a legal manner, either by hitting it in with the cue ball or with a lower numbered ball in a combination shot. A player can also win by default if the opponent commits three successive fouls. However, in most formats, including under BCA rules, the opponent must be told that he or she is "on two fouls" in order to lose by committing a third foul.

Whilst on the subject of rules...

Golden Breaks (other than 9 ball) Are against the rules in real life pool so why should they stand if you want a real rule thrown out?

Also the potting 2 on straight rule...

or for wiki-haters
http://www.bca-pool.com/play/tournaments/rules/rls_9bl.shtml

If a player fouls three consecutive times on three successive shots without making an intervening legal shot, the game is lost.

Just a little addition, Isn't Straight a nomination game, where you pick a ball and pocket (i.e "I'm going for ball no.1 and I'm potting it in left-middle pocket")?

Everyone has their own tactics. I'm guilty of doing it against Pro's to try and get a free ball.

if you want to earn the win, run the rack

Everytime you give your opponent a shot they could clear it

Also the 3 foul rule prevents stalemates where both players just keep fouling because both players are shooting for the same balls instead of either solids or stripes

Exactly. It takes some degree of skill to put your opponent in a snooker. 1 inch out and you could leave them with a clearance.

Only change i would want to see is the re-rack option on an illegal break which is in the rules

On an illegal break the non-breaker gets the option of either a ball in hand, or a re-rack and they break instead
