Got a feeling this is more wrong than the others but...

He became 21 when his adoptive father King Stephen died, meaning he could rule by himself from the outset.
Yep, that's the one. He became king at age 14 following his father Edward II's abdication/deposition, with his mother Isabella and her lover Roger Mortimer ruling in his stead. Mortimer was executed in 1330 (three years later) and thus began Edward III's personal reign.
