Oh I think I know this... I think it was an animal or something in a balloon...?

Edit: It was Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge, who suffered a fractured skull when he was thrown from a Wright Flyer A in 1908, piloted by Orville Wright.

In 1878 Milton Wright gave his two younger sons, Wilbur and Orville, a toy "helicopter" which was based on a design of Penaud and the earlier British aviation scientist Sir George Cayley. In their adult years, the Wright brothers cited these toys as an early inspiration for their interest in flight.

From 1900 until their first powered flights in late 1903, they conducted extensive glider tests that also developed their skills as pilots. Their bicycle shop employee Charlie Taylor became an important part of the team, building their first aircraft engine in close collaboration with the brothers.
