Ridiculous ... I was in the quarters and was writing an email between games and when I went to check saw I'd been given another bye and then when I checked the game window itself I saw I'd been logged out, giving my opponent a bye ..

So am I right in thinking I should be practising or playing friendlies if I get a bye to avoid this happening again ????

You are logged out of the game if you are inactive for 20 minutes.

The easiest way to avoid this is as you said, just play a shot on the practice table whenever you think of it.

It happens to me a bit and I know how frustrating it is. But its just one of those things you have to remember to do

What you should of done when you checked for invite is take a shot as aflumpire said.
An easy way waiting for an e-mail is if your using live or yahoo be logged into the messenger part of them because when you get a e-mail a little box shows in the corner stating you got a e-mail and who from

You don't have to play games, but you need to show the game *some* kind of activity every now and then, aye. Simply taking a single shot every 19.99 minutes does it though, so it's not exactly hard to remain logged in - but it's a pity we still have to.

It's been discussed many times that the timeout ought to be higher, at least for players currently in a tourny, but I guess it's just one of those things that don't get any real priority.

I personally don't think that the current 20 minute idle time should be raised.

A vast majority of people online are not in tournaments, and I think it would be silly for those in tournaments to have a higher idle time then those who are not in tournaments.

It's simple to play one shot every 5 or so minutes. While it is easy to forget that you are logged in, with a bit of 'practice', it's easy to get the hang of playing a shot every 5 minutes or so.

Increasing the idle time would only put more stress on the server, especially during peak times.

also typing in the chat room helps as well, sometimes ive sat there for hours chatting and not took a shot and i havent been logged out

As for flumpy, I agree this isn 't a big deal, but a rather harmless change could help avoid situations like the one in this case, and that alone makes it a good idea.

This game has a very small player base. Doubling the timeout across the line would make virtually no difference to server load what so ever.

In short, there are no cons. Only pros.

I think it was mentioned before that perhaps those in tourneys wouldn't suffer a timeout due to idleness...? It's there somewhere in earlier posts I'm pretty sure. Personally though, I'm a big big fan of byes yet I realise that if I get logged out, it's my fault. I'd be too busy keeping an eye on the chat room though for that to happen.
