The thread title says it all.... it happens constantly to me and i am starting to get annoyed now.
Maybe have the same rule as in Straight when someone leaves?

This has been on the plate for ages. Just too many other issues that comes first I guess - after all, this is a nuisance and nothing more.

I think I made a thread about this a while ago, it is really annoying.
Especially since 9ball run outs are so precious to me

agreed, heard this this thread a few times, but i think it can be easily incorporated and should be brought up again....should carry on until the end of the break!
I know of a few players that leave the game room when the're about to lose, just so they dont get a loss next to the're name in stats, as just goes down as a default loss.

So you're saying it doesn't count as a loss if you abandon the game?
I was fairly certain it did.

You're right, Rogan. Leaving during a game counts as a loss. So why someone would want to leave during an opponent's attempted run-out (or 7 balling) is beyond me cos 1) it doesn't count against their stats in any way and 2) once the opponent has work to do to finish the game, it leaves the door open for an unlikely victory for the other player.
But yes, the system used in straight would be nice.

Well, the important part here is to keep the focus straight:
The problem is NOT the player leaving - that's their prerogative.
The problem is the game implementation ending the game and the current visit when the player leaves.

Same rule? :S
Okay let's just say that the rule has been changed to that like straight, and if your going for your runout and you foul the black.... then what?

Brilliant question... Lose the game but still go into the next round? Because basically you would be deemed to have won once the opponent left? But that might be difficult to implement. Not in 9 ball though, unless you were on your third foul...

Why would you lose the game? Your opponent has left and therefore forfeited the game, it's the same in straight. I've had opponents leave in straight when I'm 15+ points behind, and my ensuing run ends before I reach their score, but obviously I still win because they left. This is the most overdue upgrade the game needs in my opinion!

The way straight works, there's no way that you can lose the game based directly on the result of your shot. Therefore, it's possible for your opponent to leave the game and you to continue your run, and the game won't be considered over until your run ends and your opponent is no longer there, whereupon you are handed the win.
The problem, then, with e.g. UK 8 ball is that if you're in the middle of an attempted run-out and your opponent leaves, and when you're on the black and you pot both the black and any other ball (or foul the black in any way), the game will, as I understand it at present, say that you have lost. Reason: when you play a game of straight and your opponent leaves before your run to take you past 35 ends (whether you had reached 35 or not before he/she left), it doesn't say in the result "A wins 40-15 (by default, B left the game)". Instead, it just gives it straight as a regular win, because the opponent's absence is now irrelevant as the usual conditions for victory have been met. If you pot the black and white in either 8 ball variety after your opponent leaves, the game will say you have fouled the black and have lost. If it happens in a tournament, I would imagine both players are DQ-DQ, one for leaving the game early and one for losing by a fouled black.
9 ball is a possibility though when it comes continuing the game to run the rack if the opponent leaves early. The only way you can lose on your own shot is if you have fouled for the third time in a row, and this cannot be the case on a run-out attempt.
