Hi,

I've noticed a lot of problems related to the game sounds recently. Therefore the sound code has been modified.

Before we used Java's older internal sound system to play effects. This is no longer maintained by Java. Therefore newer versions have some problems - occasionally causing Java to crash with the white screen effect (I would estimate half to two thirds of Java crashes were caused by the sounds).

Now we use the more modern setup, basically using your system default sound - which is usually DirectX for those on Windows.

One effect is that the sound may be different in volume to before.

I'm looking to improve the quality of the sound effects in the future.

Any specific problems let me know.

Yeah it's not that great at the moment nick but as you say you look to improve it so we will just have to live with it till you find a better clonk lol.

simple solution if its really that bad dont play with sound, i never do

I have just noticed im not sure if this is just me but sometimes its sounds like im watching a dubbeb bruce lee movie because when i hit the balls it makes a sound a few seconds later making it out of sync. Not sure if it's me or the update as my pc is usually fine.

Having the 5 last seconds indicated by sound is a vital tool in playing this game so playing without sound is a pretty big drawback

i've never used sound either, has never affected my game.

I thought I could hear something different with the balls after shooting, I asked about it in the chatroom but no-one else noticed any difference...

i must admit, i do prefer the old sound - is there going to be any chance of choosing which sound you want it

Please don't worry about the quality of the sound - I'm working at improving that now.

However things like delays, distortion etc are important to report. Thanks Kirk for reporting this - the next patch should hopefully resolve this.
