Yeah i have an idea. A lot of people who play on here are on different time zones. So how about we have a clock on the site that is a time, and people use THAT clock to plan, like clan matches or tournaments, or just plain games. And everyone on the site sees the same time.

Honest opinions and thoughts please.

think i saw a different time zone on thursday, i was at a mates shop signed in on this and the times for example with your post time (1:49) it said 15:49 and i was only in frodsham 4.5miles from mine, i don't know why it showed that but anyway, the idea looks good but people would need a second watch or some think.

wow it just popped into my head that with funkypool having it's own one time worldwide its like funky becomes it's own country lol

Lol jack. I know they change time zones on here a lot, but it would be so much easier for everyone if we had this.

why should we?

I live in Australia and we normally have a 10 hour time difference from the UK (I say normally as its 9 hours during daylight saving for the UK).

So why should I, and everyone else who lives in Australia and countries with major time differences to the UK such as the USA, Phillipines and New Zealand have to or subtract hours to everything we see on here?

I see where you are coming from, but it makes everything simplistic for the people who do live in other time zones.

For clan matches, the runners always state "games must be finished by midnight GMT..." - thats easy enough.

But for me to see what time my favourite tournament was on next, it would be very confusing for me if it was all at GMT.

Sorry, I just dont see the need for it.

Personally, I like to work on the timezone I am in and not worry about other timezones.

Out of interest, what is the current situation for people in other countries? (Canada, Australia).

I live in Scotland so I'm already on the right time. I was wondering if people from another time zone will see this post being posted at 11.09 or the proper time where they are.

currently the time shown is in my local time zone.

so your last post yoda shows that it was posted at 20:09 - which is 11:09 UK time (provided you guys are still on Daylight Saving.)

So as far as I understand, the suggestion is for everyones time to be shown in GMT - which would be a pain in the backside for me as I would have to add 10 hours to every time stamp I see to see what time it was posted in my time.

It would be handy for those running competitions and that, especially so there is no confusion as for when deadlines are (which most are midnight)

But the simple soulution is to say that "This deadline is sunday, midnight GMT" - then I know its 10am my time.

Or if I am running a league, I will say "This round must be finished by 9pm, Sunday (GMT +10)"

as for the two clocks - good idea but in my opinion, it would be too messy. And those who live in England will see the same time posted twice.

Thanks for the explanation Flumps.

I think it's fine as it is then. Everyone sees their local time, that's the main thing.

Could be a good Idea, but not much point in it to be honest.

How about this, the forum and tourno clocks stay on the time zone for where people are in the world and at the bottom of clan pages it shows a funky time which can be set for say france and clan matches can be played from the funky time

that would only cause confusion jack.

You either have one time that everyone sees or you have your local time displayed as it is now.

Its a bit like walking into a shop displaying the local time then popping down to the post office that shows London time.

Maybe a new page named ''What time is it around the world'' Maybe a bit short though!

And then have a few digital clocks showing what time it is in different places.

I would like the site to use GMT or UTC as standard time too, instead of adapting times according to the zone chosen in each user's profile.

Technically, the site already uses GMT, not modified for daylight saving, so all this would take is to remove the formatDate calls that translates the time to the user's own time zone.

As you say, this would encourage better communication related to times between players - and possibly reduce the number of misunderstandings...

Then again, a significant share of players show difficulties dealing with the concept of time zones at all, so using a standard clock wouldn't necessarily remove all mistakes - but hopefully a few.

The times displayed, both on the forum and user profiles etc are all adjusted to your local time, as defined by the time zone you select in your user profile.

In fact, this adjustment happens even for you, since the basic time used for the site is not adjusted for daylight saving... so during summertime, there is a 1 hour time difference - even in the UK

mistakes such as...?

Its simple to say its a good idea and all if you are living in Europe.

I have no difficulty understnading time zones, but it would become bery frustrating to have re-figure what time something has to be done by.

Personally, I like it how it is, and I see no reason for why it should change. Clans run well as it is now, and changing the clock system will not help getting more games completed!

Such as both the one proposing a time and the one accepting it are thinking in their own time zones, leading to two different times entirely.

This is less of a problem when dealing with people on widely different time zones, since the difference is huge and hard to forget about. I've seen it happen more with closer time zones (like BST vs CET) as well as vs US time zones where the awareness in general is much lower (no offense to anyone, just simple statistics)

It's no easier (or harder) in Europe than in your country... either you have to adjust for time zone differences or you don't. I'm sure you agree it's hardly harder to add or subtract an hour or two, vs 10?

The problem is that a lot of people seem to struggle with which way they should adjust times, or even fail to be aware at all.

I didn't make this proposal, nor do I think it's a big deal, I just happen to agree that it would be an improvement.

The current system means two players can agree on "5 o'clock", and by relating to the time displayed on the site, get online at different times.
