How about secret mods or the mods can turn there mod mode off ?
there for it will stop people swearing as much because they wont no when a mod is in the room or not :D

Without discussing mod tools in detail, there are already methods to accomplish this, methods which are based on publicly known tools and not subject to mods only (such as using multiple accounts)

Furthermore I fully support the original poster's request for more use of "invisible mods", I did back when I was a mod myself, and I still do as a regular user.

Yes, we don't know how much this happens, but based on simple statistics it clearly doesn't happen nearly enough.
