hello , i think that when you win a tourny you dshould get points for winning it , its a bit pointless winning for no reason , Sould get say 10 - 15 Points For what ever you win.

It would give winning a bit more of a reason and would drive other playes such as newbies to try and wi them more i just dont think its too fare that Players win t everytime they enter it you know like a certain someone whom im not going to name has won it 400+ times.

The better players are still going to win the majority of them anyway, as it is now.

Well if you could reach 1000 in tournaments, in all fairness you should be able to reach it in ranked games, which you can't.

Why Not

Because of the edge modification, explained in the help section.

You'll eventually start to win so little points when you get to the top of the rankings.

Then again, I guess nothing really prevents points gained from tournaments to be subject to the same edge modification anyways, thus removing *that* problem....

There are several other concerns with starting to mix up tournaments vs. ranking though. They are currently two systems apart, and as soon as you start having one impact the other, you need to do it the other way around as well (somehow)

But, the top two links are the same idea as yours; reward for tournaments.

The bottom two are slightly different, but the principal is still the same; you play ranked tournaments.


The way I see it, is that you play tournaments for tourney wins, and ranked games for ranking points. The two just don't mix as there are so many ways and variables that could make it unfair, and take the ranking points to the extreme ends of the system. (Could be worded better, but I hope you know what I mean)

This is madness lol, always 2 sides to everything right? So if you get points for winning tournaments, The better players who just concentrate on " ranks " will join and you know some just cant be beaten, so this will make it "impossible" for the newbie to win

In short it is a percentile reduction of the points you would normally earn, based on your current rank. The higher rank, the more cutoff you get on your earnings, and as you approach 1000 that cutoff approaches 100%, meaning you stop gaining more rank what so ever.

To save you digging through the threads, the most fundimental issue with giving rewards for tourney wins is that there is a limited "pool" of ranking points avaliable, you can't just magic them out of nowhere.

For someone to gain, someone else has to lose.

You will notice the very doable option of having ranked tournaments mentioned however, and since the thread is locked, it would be interesting to see if it's still a popular idea.

While essentially true, this isn't without exceptions already.

We already have the win bonus, edge modification, as well as the daily reductions, that add to- or subtract from that pool.

The point is that it needs to balance out over time. Adding new sources that add points to the pool (like a tourny) would probably need added daily reductions to balance it all, meaning players who don't play tournies would over time diminish.

Yep, and it wouldn't be fair if people say like had to give up 1.0 point of ranking to enter etc. I think this idea isn't good - we don't need points for tournies, Just play ranked matches.

Ranked tournaments would put me off entering.

I enter every tournament when I'm online regardless of whether I actually intend to play or not.

I would love to see all competetive games ranked as it would give a truer indication of ability than the ranking tables currently do.

The initial impact could potentially be huge on 'ranking' scores but people really need to move away from the belief that the score is important - its your position in the ranking table that is the important thing.

Could tournament matches not use their own ranking scales which were higher than those in use for normal ranked games? Would this not then give them a higher weighting and reward bearing in mind I would imagine the tournament results would be in a minority compared to other competetive games played? All obviously subject to the normal edge modifications and reductions that exist now.

I cannot see any negatives to having ranked tournament games but am open to views on that.

While I understand where you're coming from, please be aware that this is a bit of bad form... Simply because by doing that you create a lot of "no show" byes, (inflating the total number of bye games beyond the strictly necessary minimum). No big deal, just pointing out that others suffer from this habit
