I think we're all forgetting how competition works here. It is instinct that you want to beat your opponent, therefore you will do whatever possible to stop him beating you and going through even if it means both getting DQ.

It is only a select few who have enough conscience to let the other player through if they have no chance of winning. most players find it annoying that they will be beaten, and so will drag the other player down with them.

Also, you may call it "unsporting", but no-where in the rules does it say they have to yield when it looks hopeless! They have the right to use all of the shot time allocated to them! Thy are doing nothing wrong!

Most players want to enjoy playing games on this website, and so will maximise their time on here as they don't feel as though they need to give up. Anyway, a few of players get a kick out of annoying opponents if they are better than them.

If you don't want it happening, clear the table quickly! Beat them quickly and then it doesn't matter!

Anyway, the majority of the time it is server lag and not the players fault, no matter how much you believe it.

(I'm only trying to keep the argument level. Otherwise, every player who lags will get branded a cheater and unsporting, and that's just not right!)

EDIT: Editing for clarity and to make it make sense

Can't you moan about something we actually can have an effect on.... whether some one have a crappy connection or not can not be changed... unless rob your planning to offer to pay for everyone who has a problem to be on a different internet provider?

Normally, it's only 20 seconds.

However, if it IS taking 10 minutes for a shot, you can be damn well sure it's not on purpose. That is a definite case of server lag or bad connection.

If you don't like it, do what aphrodite suggested and pay for them to have better connection.

I do not for one minute think that any of this isn't correct but it is still one of the saddest things to read and a sad indictment of human nature. I'm just glad thats not the way I live life.

Well personally, if your going to lose, you should lose the most gracious way possible.

If that includes leaving, or setting your opponent up, you still should do it.

As for not responding, thats not the persons fault, its the internet connection as i said in a earlier post

The problem is that in most of the cases where someone is lagging badly, you won't be able to quit and let your opponent through even if you want to.

As as rat said, we can't expect people to give up their rights as a player (including spending the full shot clock) just because we think they ought to. They are playing in accordance with the rules, and that's all there is to it.

If we want a proper solution to this problem - forget to try to change people - it's not possible.

The solution is to change the game - not the players.

or not complain about it as it really is not a huge problem in the overall scheme of things

and in most instances you do have the chance to leave well before any final lag that creeps up on you completely unawares

Hmmmm... I actually like this post. If ur 32-5 up with 20 s left and you fail to finish in time, did you really deserve to progress if u couldn't get 35 points in 20 mins? Food for thought.

Thats completely different to what this thread is about though

This is where your lag is eating into the 20 mins playing time so that your opponent might have actually done quite well to get to 32-5 in the actual playing time.

If I was the player causing the lag I would leave the game - not celebrate a double dq and rejoice in stopping the other player advancing.

It's perfectly sound to complain about problems even if they aren't the end of the world.

AS LONG AS, the honest, only goal is to seek a solution that will prevent it from ever happening again.

People who complain with the motivation of seeking revenge on the other hand, deserve no sympathy at all.

That all depends on the nature of your lag. In many cases, you might not be able to quit even if you wanted to. (or more precisely, you could quit locally, but the server wouldn't know about it - making it a worthless effort)
