It's one of those famous pieces that you hear all over the place and being used everywhere, but you don't know what it is. Then it appeared in that ad for Lyric FM where the man and woman are having the romantic meal and they have to run upstairs in case it wakes the baby. They mention there it's Tchaikovsky and that's how I found it. I'd never heard the whole thing before, needless to say.
I then read about it on Wikipedia; it commemorates/celebrates the resistance and defeat by the Russians of Napoleon's army. Hence the strains of the Marseillaise in it, and other stuff, like "God Save the Tsar".
And just in case no-one knows what we're on about, here it is again:

I knew the story behind the piece, having studied Napoleon in depth. You're right though, it is a masterful piece, that's gotta be the best video out there for it too!

There's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzMGzBKRttU (Part 1) (look at the comment by Glassybubbles1231234 ) and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkS9THHjp38 (Part 2) but... there's no cannon fire, just dull thuds.

Jackie Chan lol...Yeah I've seen these videos, not quite the same effect. I have a great love for classical music, used to listen to a lot as a kid, never told anyone though ...I could give you some more classics that you might enjoy? Or perhaps you know many yourself

Nice collection couple of my favourites in there...Beethoven's 9th is a must in any collection though...a bit more Mozart never hurt anyone either! And Verdi too, for the romantics among us!
