Did you ever see... what was it, Superfight? They had a computer deciding heavyweight title fights between opponents from all eras and broadcast them on the radio, and for a finish they filmed an Ali vs Marciano fight. I saw the documentary on it. Marciano had long retired at that stage but lost weight and wore a toupee to better resemble himself at his peak. He died in an plane crash just three weeks after recording finished...

Havent seen it myself but have heard about that. They got them to spar in a ring for the film lol!
Only happened because Ali was upset with the result of his fantasy computer decided fight against another guy whos name I forget and sued the guy who made it!

Ya, they filmed 70-odd rounds or every possible outcome, then they ran the simulation and pastiched (Is that a word? Is that the right word?) them together to create a fight, complete with computer-generated stats after each round. Will I tell you who won or do you want to watch it?

Jack Johnson was a great black heavyweight from the turn of the 20th century. He fought and defeated Jim Jeffries in a black vs white showdown, especially as in those times anti-black sentiment went through the roof. Jeffries was unbeaten and had come out of a six-year retirement "for the sole purpose of proving that a white man is better..." etc. In the 15th, Jeffries was knocked down twice for the first time in career and his corner threw in the towel so that he wouldn't be knocked out.

In the original radio competition, Ali was beaten by Jeffries, so Ali sued for racial something-or-other. The idea of the movie was provided as a solution, with Ali getting a slice of the profits. It was meant to be shown as a one-off at the various cinemas and then destroyed, but some kept showing it for days afterwards. it's now archived ay the United States National Film Registry.
