Personally I think that spin should stay the way it is at the moment. As mentioned before, not only would it be a challenge to implement this change, it would add a level of complexity to the game that I don't believe belongs on funkypool.

Interesting stuff.
I've not added this because of the additional complexity it would add to the controls with only limited increase in realism. Janb's suggestion was how I would have implemented it (the spin automatically would move to the nearest available point after you choose the direction).
Remember it's actually possible to put backspin even if tight against the cushion and shooting away from it, just "jack the cue up". The game currently assumes people can do that the length of the table though !
