It apparentally wipes out your entire harddrive. I'm not lying, it's on TV (haven't seen it on TV tho), and my parents say its real. Sadly, it's a worm. God help us... we're apparentally not supposed to use our computers THE ENTIRE MONTH?!?! I'LL BE MISERABLE Anyways do you guys think it's real?

Its not being released on April 1st, its just that the C. varient is due to "come alive" at that time if your computer is already infected.

Its a very well known and documented virus, so provided you have a reliable and up to date Antivirus program, you have nothing to worry about.

It's certainly advisable to have all important files backed up, and all anitivirus software up to date, however, that goes for 365 days a year, not just April 1st

March 31st:
- Back up files to a CD
- Update virus scanner
- Update Malware scanner
- Run virus scanner
- Run malware scanner
- Use that annoying AVG add-on on IE to tell me whether the site is safe or not..
Heh... Surely that should be enough?
EDIT: What is the C variant meant to do (E.g- Steal credit card details, wipe hard drives, just blank the machine etc.)?
Is it the "big" one?

It just does what the others do, download pieces of code from various websites, and redistribute itself, along with anything else thats been engineered into it.
No "bigger" than the dozens of other viruses being released every day, just someone in the media happened to notice this one when they were short of a story..

Thats just Microsofts standard "reward" they've had in place for a few years now. A quick look found this report on Techdirt from 2003 : http://techdirt.com/articles/20031105/0747259.shtml
But back then nobody paid any attention because there must have been some more interesting news about a surfing dog or something similar...
Ah well, only half an hour now 'till we find out

Might be a coincidence but i am getting loads of pop ups since april began!
Never had a single one before since I switched to FF and now I get a fair few randomly spring up, even when I havent clicked anything.
AVG doesnt find anything though so im thinking coincidence at the minute.....
