''YouTube will not reverse its decision to block music videos to UK users despite a plea from the Performing Rights Society to change its mind.
It is removing all premium music videos to UK users after failing to reach a new licensing agreement with the PRS.''
What were your thoughts on this?

On the one hand, if what youtube say about losing money every time a video is played is true, then big up to Youtube for having the balls to say we won't pay that. They are one of the few legitimate places you can watch a music video online that I know of, so the PRS are shooting themselves in the foot with their apparent greed.
Where will people go to watch music videos now.......sites that pay the PRS nothing!
Therefore the artists are losing money as well as youtube, although I'm sure youtube won't lose much sleep over it.
On the other hand, when people find another site to watch the videos, what's to say they will return to youtube in the future.
A short term loss by removing the songs in the meantime won't hurt youtube too much but if the consumers don't return when they reinstate them (which they will eventually), then that will hurt their profits.
It strikes me of being similar to Virgin Media vs Ssky and the dispute over the channels like Sky One last year.
Eventually Virgin thrashed out an agreement, which I'm positive was because they were losing more customers than ever who wanted to watch shows like Prison Break/Lost etc.
It's all a money thing and I bet this dispute doesn't last as long as Virgin v Sky, PRS will ask for slightly less money, youtube will offer slightly less than that, and then they will meet in the middle
Neither side can afford for it to rumble on for too long imo so expect to see them back in the next month

Annoying for sure (especially since they blocked the rest of Europe at the same time), but fortunately it's easy to get around should you want to. Any kind of proxy, translator or similar does the trick, ironically enough including google, who happens to be the owner of youtube.

I never set my country settings on the youtube pages... All videos still play fine for me... (Maybe I'm wrong, someone post a link to one that has been blocked?)

Has anyone been able to find a blocked video yet?
I've just spent a fair while looking for one, all the musc videos I can find play fine including both US and UK record labels official sites.
Looks like its nothing more than scaremongering at the moment.
Edit - glad to see i'm not the only one

''We are working on this process at the minute''
I think that is what Google are saying at the moment.
You could find some saying ''This video is not available in your country'' .... I would imagine it would take more than a 2 days to clear all of those video's.

I tryed clicking on a music video today and it said 'this video is not available in your country'
So perhaps they've started? But I have seen this message in the past on various videos, may well be coincidence.
Where do we stand on music which doesn't have the video to it? Such as the videos which just have the lyrics, will they blocked aswell does anyone know??

As Jan mentioned earlier try a proxy.
www.proxy.org
That's the best one. It's a compiled list of %99.999999 of working proxies. You should be able to view the videos through one of those sites
