Was just looking at the tournament page to see who has enter'd and thought it would be a good idea if instead of just the name why not have something like (N)(I)(A)(P)(V) and using the key at the bottom to explain what they mean? would be good if people are looking which pro's etc are in? ^^.

i can normally tell rank by the amount of tournament they have won.
while obviously you cant always tell (some pros may not have won a single tournament), you can tell the good players with their wins.
as I see it, if you want more info on a player, then thats why their name is clickable.
thats the way i see it.

I agree with you both. It might be a little awkward to program in a letter after the name of the player, and it might make it look pretty untidy, even though it would be a nice indicator of the standard of player. But the number of tournament wins after the player's name says a lot. And a professional with 0 wins either doesn't take part in many tourneys or. ahem, bottles it at the later stages of tourneys

Instead of having it after each username, you could have each rank sorted into different groups.
All the virtuosos at the top, and then the Newbies at the bottom, instead of listing it alphabetically as it is now.
Eg.
Vituosos - _____, _______, ______,
Professionals ____,_____,_____
And so on.

Looking at Rogan's idea, maybe this could be optional? Like have it the way it is now, or the way rogan has layed it out. I prefer to see how many tourney wins a player has, but others may prefer to see rank.

I'd prefer to keep as it is now myself, I like to see the tournament wins, I was just suggesting a tidier way of doing the suggested idea.
Although it'd probably be possible to have both.

Sorry, been busy with college not had time to check this, i was meerly just suggesting the idea for everyone, not myself personaly, was an idea for others to see who is in the tournament with a rank marker by them or as rogan said

If you mean skill, then yes I agree.
When it comes to ranking points vs. tourney wins, I'd say they are too independent for there to be any real correlation between the two. Too many players play ranked games or tournies exclusively for the opposed score to really mean a lot.

I agree and disagree. I understand what he's saying. It is easy to tell who the better players are by looking at the tourny list, but i also agree with you. I think they really have nothing to do with each other (points vs. tourny rank). For instance, look at Chris. He is phenomenally good, but hasnt played any ranked games. He has many tourny wins, but is still ranked 675. So i don't think that tourny wins means high rank, but i also believe that someone with 300 tourny wins is gonna be among the best in the tourny. So i agree with both of you

That was my point psyco, a good number of tourny wins does not mean a high rank should be expected.
Both a high tourny win count and a high rank can (and usually is) an indication of a good player for sure, but one of them shouldn't always be expected to be accompanied by the other. Like you said - a lot of good players play only tournies and therefore have crap ranks... Just like some of the best players here don't play tournies at all and still have great rank.

Sticking with the current subject of rank compared to tournament wins, the 'title' of a player also doesn't indicate the actual skill of the player always.
So even if the idea I suggested did become an option, you would still get fake newbies in the newbies section.

yeah same, but under where the players that have not won tournements are based on how many win they have had on that game so like the less inexperienced are more to the bottom.
that's my idea.

Here's a little fact for you: the players as thet appear on the list on the tournament page are ranked by
- tourney wins, then
- almost everybody else alphabetically, and finally
- players who have played 0 games, alphabetically
Have a look at the next tourney. Actually, there's one about to start now! Look at how the alphabetical order near the very end ends and restarts, and those players at the end will have played 0 games in whichever discipline of pool is involved.
Update: at this moment, there's two players at the very end with no games of US 8 ball played, ever. They appear after all the players who have played at least one game.
