Does anyone else think the point systems is a little screwed? I always lose 4-6 points, no matter who i play. I played a friend that was under 684 in 8 ball, and i was ranked 791. I lost to him and i lost 5 points, then i played the same person in 9 ball and lost. He was 691 and i was 719. I again lost 4+ points. It seems unless i play someone thats 200 points above me, i lose 4 and 5 points. I dont think that seems fair....anyone else have this problem?

The answer to literally every single question of this nature is that you either don't fully understand how the system works, or simply are overlooking one or more aspects of it. Not trying to be arrogant or dismiss a possible error, but it's simple historical truth.
In your case, my guess is that you overlook your friend's newbie status in each of the game types. For players that have less than 100 games played, the impact on their opponents score change for each game is reduced by a percentage, both for wins and losses. That percentage changes towards 0 as the number of played games approaches 100.
Also remember that the basic volatility (how many points are earned/lost in each played game) is different for different game types. The constants that form the base for this are documented - along with the rest of the scoring system - right here: http://www.funkypool.com/help/rankings

If his friend was a newbie, then how come he kept losing 4 and 5 points? Surely if he was a newbie, that would have been closer to 1 or 2?

Depends. If he was an "almost no longer newbie" in one of the game types, and slightly less so in the other, you could still see those numbers with such a significant rank gap.
But you may be right - that this explanation is unlikely (hard to know since we know so little about the opponent in question)
The latter part of my post is relevant regardless tho - different game types move a different number of points in either direction for each game played.
