Not at all.

The difference with W7 is that it will support multi-touch interfaces as standard (much like vista has full single touch support integrated as standard)

Build 7000 of Beta 1 was released a few days ago and is the first public beta to include this support, which might explain any daft rumours like these popping up.

I've been using the earlier builds for a while now and really miss the new taskbar, aero and ribbon features when moving back to Vista or XP (aero shake is particularly good when playing FP ).

Plenty of reviews detailing all these out there so no point in repeating them.

Its the most stable early beta I can remember since Win98SE's developer release, which is a very good sign.

Edit - hopefully it will mean an increase in popularity of tablet PC's. So many people have poor views of touchscreen technology due to things ike the iPhone and the Mac attempts, but I've been using tablets on a daily basis for over 5 years now and the old mouse/keyboard does feel very restrictive by comparison.

I didn't know what Aero Shake was, so I searched it, and found a nice short video that showed it.

I thought it may be of use for other people reading this and not knowing what it was.

Aren't I good?

I'm not sure wheather I should give windows 7 ago because If it glitches I'm in trouble because I do not have the disk to go back.. But I may look into it.

What is it like?

Is there anyway to remove it once you've installed it?

A friend of mine was asking me the other day, he said he wants go back to Vista (which came with his laptop - and he doesn't have a CD for it.)

Spinner?

EDIT: I don't think he made a back up of his drive (or whatever it's called - sorry, I don't know much about this.)

He is messed if he doesn't have the disk,On the website where you download its says in BOLD do not download if you do not have the driver or somthing like that.

It looks like he may have to find a local with a Vista disk..

I'm sure Spinner could give you more information than I can.

What happens when the Beta period runs out though?

August I think it is - I read somewhere that if you had the Vista disk you could re-install it, but what about without it?

I've just done some research on the internet (not sure how reliable it is though) but what appears to have happened is he's clicked 'Upgrade' instead of 'Dual Boot' when setting Windows 7 up.

I found this solution to uninstall Windows 7 from a dual boot.

But on my mate's laptop, Windows 7 is the only choice of OS to pick from.

Is there anyway of rolling back to Vista?

Simple answer - no.

He's for all intents and purposes replaced Vista, and once the beta period times out, he wont be able to use W7 either.

However, though he may not have a Vista disk (which he will need to re-install Vista), he should have a "recovery" disc, or something similar, which will restore his laptop to the way it was when he bought it.

If not, he should be able to ring the supplier he got the laptop from and request one.

Thanks Spinner.

What would happen after the Beta period?

Just nothing would boot?

If another Vista disk was used but with his activation key, would that work to re-install it?

Sorry for all the questions.

EDIT: And would that recovery disk re-install Vista too?

After Beta period the OS usually just boots up to screen with an expired message. Possibly with a link to the next Beta if it's avaliable, but I honestly can't remember whether that was a rumour or a definite feature (they want people to follow W7 right through to full release if possible)

Either way, it's useless.

Any Vista disk (of the same type, obviously) will be fine so long as he has his activation Key.

A recovery disk is usually the best option as it will include a clean install of Vista, with all the laptop drivers included.

Right, thanks Spinner, you've been a great help.

I've just got the Toshiba number to give to him tomorrow, so hopefully it will all go smoothly.

At least he has a few months to sort it out/

Thanks Lewis, I gave him the number and told him what Spinner had said and he said he thinks he'll be able to sort it.

He feels daft now though.
