Have I missed an announcement or something?

I was playing in a tournament game and I made my opponent play 5 consecutive fouls yet they were not counted as consecutive fouls (this is 8 ball US)

so what happened there? Have I missed an announcemnet?

No. Three consecutive fouls was never a feature of 8 ball US. Three consecutive fouls is a feature of 9 ball.

I had 6 balls and he had one ball left which was behind a wall of 4 of my balls sitting right on the pocket.

I would have been stupid not to go for the foul out (if it was there )
