Basically i accidentally downloaded some file and it was a virus...*dope*
My windows automatic updates and avg updates were turned off and cant be turned on now. Avg found a virus but couldnt delete it so i uninstalled it. installed norton 2004 and tried to update it but couldnt connect to the its server, so now i've uninstalled it. now i cant connect to some website using both IE and FF. If I had virus scan software I could tell you the name of the virus but i cant remember.

Right, you need to system restore, either go to help and support if it will let you and type in system restore, or go to start and run, type in rstrui.exe and then system restore to before you got your virus, if you need anymore help visit my new site, www.internetsolutionsforyou.co.uk

The only thing i can think of is to fully restore, what You have is a worm, buries into your system makes it harder to remove.
As for java you need to make sure you're using an admin account, if you are and its not working, make a new admin account, reboot into that and try again

Shripman, please don't be a self proclaimed computing expert and guess problems, not only that but unless you know what you're talking about you may damage more than just your ego.
-----------
ul son, don't bother wiping your C-drive as suggested. Simply take it into a local "Computer fix-it" sort of shop, they'll take a look and if they know their stuff it will be very cheap to sort out.
You can't fully help over the internet and spending a tenner might be more convenient than having to back up an entire system then wipe it.
-----------
Hope that helps.

anyone got any ideas on how to fix a pc port on the back of a modem
1. green screen (later fixed by fiddling with port)
2. now its actually sunk into the modem and says no signal even though green light is on
I'd rather try to fix it myself rather than going to all the trouble of taking it to a shop lol

I'm asuming you mean your monitor connector on the back of your main PC unit.
It sounds like your graphics card has simply come loose.
If your PC is no longer under warranty, there is no harm in opening the case for a look (switch off at mains first, obviously)
Re-inserting the card and securing is fairly simple and all you should need is a suitable screwdriver, however if you're in any way unsure, its best left to someone with a little experience.

Opened the unit up to try and fix it and the connector port snapped right off
