One of the few skills needed in straight, in addition to the main one which is potting, is a little bit of control which means you shouldn't need to go thrashing into balls hoping for a fluke and in my opinion you shouldn't be rewarded for doing so. If there's nothing on you need to play an excellent (nominated) safety and try and create the next opening.

Absolutely especially when it's one of the most basic aspects of the game, and has been for years and years.

But the rule for an additional ball potted needs to be brought in. It is in the standard rules of the game. About once in 5 in my experience, maybe even less, does a rack-smashing opponent pot a ball. Potting second is therefore even rarer.

It should never have been a part of the FP rule in the first place. If you cannot nominate the ball and pocket in FP to match the real rule, then illegalising two balls going in in FP when the real rules allow it isn't going to fix the problem, balance it or be a compromise for it.
