I used SmartFTP for a while to upload files to my server, but now they're withdrawn their free version, and I don't know where to look for a free, easy to use bit of software..

Anyone use a good one they can recommend or something?

lmao...

It's fine, it just takes me longer to upload the files..

with a ftp client or whatever you call it lol, I can upload say 10 files at a time..

Whereas doing it one by one on the web host I have, it obviously takes longer.. which is annoying when perfecting a bit of code, having to keep uploading to see how it looks.

Someone surely uses it

Ipswitch have a free version I believe?

You could try box.net for free server space, accessible anywhere. Its very convenient and saves you quite a bit of set-up hassle.

Try filezilla.. its an open source FTP client basic but functional. Although I seriously recommend Box.net!

I don't really understand what they are offering to be honest..

I'd rather stick with what I know lol, gonna take a look at filezilla..

box.net offer free storage on their server, accessible all the time (you don't have to leave a comp on). I think they offer either 1 or 10 gig's in the free version, either should be plenty. You can access your files either through box.net or ftp://box.net/yourname

Ahh I see what you mean..

only thing is, I need PHP to be installed on the server, otherwise my website just wouldn't work lol

WS-FTP LE was an excellent free version of WS-FTP, no longer supported but you can download it from oldversion.

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=wsftp

I think it'll do what you want

If you try google you will find a whole heap of shareware options and a couple of fairly basic open source solutions.

Thats why its helpful to ask here with a few datails of what you're looking for so people can pass on their experience.

Exactly google was the first place I went But spinner is right

I downloaded the latest version that was available (i think) and only found one problem... the timeout is only 2 minutes, which gets very annoying lol, but it's an improvement from the one I was using in many ways anyway

open my documents. or even in internet explorer.

Type in the ftp address eg. ftp://yoursite.com

Should pop up with a box with username and password.

Easy as that.. then just drag and drop or copy and paste your files.
