There is this silly thing called virusremover2008 on my computer.
This is what happened:

I keep getting these messages when I go on the net "Your computer is at risk bla bla"
Today someone has decided to click OK to the message and now this has installed.
It is down the bottom right on the "tray" I think it's called (Where the MSN and AVG icons are)and I cannot get rid of it.
When I trying removing it from add or remove programmes it wont have any of it and I can't right click it to delete it.
It keeps saying I'm at risk, my privacy is at risk and there are plenty of adult sites putting my computer at risk and my marriage! The exact words.
To remove all infection they want your credit card number etc...
They keep asking me to install this doctor thing and another other programmes.
The messages that pop up in the grey box is apparently from internet explorer.
It keeps poping up non-stop and is doing my nut in.
I have AVG and, if I'm honest I don't even know what it does except sit around.

Can you kind people out there help me get rid of this thing? It would be much appreciated.

Edit: It has spelling mistakes everywhere!?!

What you mean by crap?

AVG has put a "trojan horse Downlaoder.Small.DNS"
into the Virus Vault at around the time this thing got installed. So it's there.
I would like to get rid of it from where all the little icons are on the bottom left, and off my computer.

I mean it doesnt sound nice.

Have you tried doing a scan since this thing came on. Maybe it could find it as it is obviously still active.

Could you do a system restore til before you clicked to activate the thing.

I'm running another AVG scan now.

I don't know what the last bit of your post means, but I can do everything as usual, install, un-install, just can't do anything with this programme. If I click it once it opens asks questions etc... It's so frustrating

I got rid of the browser I was using which kept giving me these messages, but that done nothing.

ahh well dont do a system restore for now if you dont know what it is. let spinner try and solve it first, im sure he knows a better way than doing a system restore.

I've had similar problems. Interestingly, some of the worst malicious software out there poses as 'computer doctors'.

Once installed on your computer there is only one true way to get rid of them, a system restore. Use your computer help to find out more about restores.

If no restore point was created prior to the installation of this software I recommend backing up all your important data and reinstalling your operating system. In english, copy your files to an external drive and use the windows disk to start fresh. This is usually a good idea every year or so anyway, the ultimate way to clean your system and takes but a few hours.

Thanks

Thank you everyone for your time and suggestions.
I gotta leave for the airport now and sadly it is still here
I haven't put your suggestions into practice though, but have shown everyone who uses this computer this thread and fingers crossed, when they do what you have all suggested all will be well.

Thank you

You probably have scheduled scan upon computer startup mate.

Go to tools, advanced settings, schedule.. if you want to try and change it..

virusremover2008 is indeed a trojan, one of those incredibly irritating types that keep askingyou to download more stuff to "clean" your system, obviously, you don't do that!

AVG 8 will clean this out no probs, but AVG7.5 may struggle, so updating the antivirus and letting it run a full scan should sort you.

Out of intrest, what browser were you using?

So, this thing is putting your marraige at risk??????
omg who the hell clicked "ok"? lol

Ummmm i suggest a programme called "Trend Micro Internet Security (TMIS)(I call it TMIS )"

I use it on my computer and i haven't got a virus on it in 6 months

Any of those "pop-up" things i suggest you NOT click on. I am positive that EVERY ONE of those things have Spyware/Virus on them.

so NEVER trust those pop-up things.

i really suggest you use TMIS it really works.

Also: if you DO install TMIS remember to get the one that's up to date. Get the one that says the current year in its name (E.G: Trend Micro Internet Security 2008).

Did you even get the thing on your computer from a pop-up?

If you didn't how did it get on there??

also: never trust anything that has a, kind of a cheap name like "virusremover2008". It usually is just some name made-up by someone who couldn't think of a better name.

so, yeah, It's obviously just some made-up thing by some freak to get a virus on your computer.

Well, alll the suggestions i left you above is all the suggestions i got, so, GOOD LUCK!!

*crosses fingers for "virusremover2008" to get off of sporting's computer*

Well thank you Jack and Cuegod.

We did completely start a fresh (wipe everything) because it was so bad about a month back because nothing worked. But it's great to see more suggestions just in-case something pops up in the future.

Pops up, get it?

Edit: I thought I posted on this a while back but was clearly wrong. We done everything suggested but nothing worked so we started a fresh by wiping everything. Thank you all very much for your time and suggestions, I'm glad to say everything is great now
