I think when creating a game you should be able to select "no newbies"

thats whats the set rank is, usually no newbie over the rank of 700+ so set it 700-800 or whatever

Seriously if you dont wanna play newbie then thats your problem not theirs it would be in a way discriminating someone because they aint been here as long, i disagree it's not fair!

You dont have to say things to people to pick on them, refusal to allow them to join in is also a form of picking on someone

So clearly there are two of us that don't like it if i was a newbie(which i am on killer) i would say just becuase i'm a newbie i cant join why does it matter the aim of the game is to win points and play for fun so why cant we just let newbie be treated normal..

I disagree with that. Many a-time when I've 7-balled a newbie or ran them out or whatever, they have a witty comment on more than half of the responses I've had.

Just thrashed a newbie:
"Geez, you seriously need a life!"
"Why would you want to be addicted to something like this?" - Which got a remark back btw.
"You spend too much time on here"
"Geek"

And it goes on and on. Not everyone does it I know and respect that, but the minority that do do it put me off newbies and kinda spoil that run of play. I've been here close to 15 months which is why I'm better than the average Joe, but I just can't stand newbies, which is why I support this idea.

We were all newbies once

The option is there for people to leave a game if they don't want to play someone, so no need for anything more.

exactly.

and in sportings case, its just the internet. They can't hunt you down and ring you to call you a geek or anything like that, its just them being immature 12 year olds (sorry to generalize)

just play them, you can get a few easy wins against a total newbie.

It's not that...it's more the fact that you don't gain as much rank from newbies, which is annoying...and also I've tried getting around the problem by creating a game called "no newbies" yet they still come in...meaning I need to stop playing and create another game which is a lot of hassle IMO just to not play a newbie.

My 2 cents worth.

While I can see where you're coming from, it would generally be a bad idea since it would make finding games as a newbie even harder than it sometimes already is.

I'd much rather take a "No resetters" option :D

And give me a "No account from IPs having other accounts registered" while at it

Just like you lose less, but yes it can obviously be considered a problem to simply have lower stakes than you would against a non-newbie of equal rank.

Exactly. And you don't lose many points if you do lose, and you get a chance to meet new person to talk to and help

To sm_rat

(I don't know how to do multi-quotes)
You get that problem with all players, not only newbies.
It's harsh to say you don't like newbies, don't ya think? You were once one, as Spinner pointed out.

And for my two pennyworth worth on the topic;
There is a ranking setting so you can play a game against an opposing rank of your choice, if the newbie appears to have that rank then he/she has the rank you've asked for, and that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
But I do see your point, I just think it's pointless, because you've asked for that rank, and they got it !. But as one Janmb said "Options are always good"

Edit: Typo

BAN THAT 'STAT RESETTING' and i dont think it be a bad thing to stop "newbies" coming into a ' "pro's game" coz there are plenty of other "newbies" out there, So they can make a game and make it a "newbie's" game init. You beat a "newbie" earn 0.9 Then lose ..lose around 3+ !! And they probably not a "newbie" probably just reseted their ranks. Which i think is "messed Up" Ooooh yeh and u cant change your username and keep your rankings but you can reset your rankings? Thats weird

Its been said many many times, but the reset option is there so that you know when someone is experience, but starting again, or a new user.

There is no way to stop people from making new accounts (unless we ban any more new users from the site, not very practical) so the best option is to manage them.

The amount you lose if you lose to a newbie is adjusted just as is the amount you win if you win, so its a moot point.

Not true spinner. The newbie adjustment helps migitate the problem somewhat, but a reset player working his way back up IS going to hurt the opponents he play regardless of that adjustment.

I completely agree that is is futile to remove it since people will just make new accounts instead, but at the very least - reset accounts should be flagged a lot clearer - for lifetime. Add a (reset) behind the name or something like that - in much the same way newbie status is currently indicated.
