Hi all
Had this problem in a game of killer just before the 9 ball speed tourney this evening. Decided to play a quick game of 4-man killer before it started. However, one of the players kept going into a stare of not responding and kept coming back. This ultimately meant that his opponents, including me, had to disappear before the speed tourney due to the time that was wasted by this player.
This type of thing would also cause problems in tournaments where a match ends DQ-DQ. Surely there should be some way of booting players who fail to respond and then respond again, and do this repeatedly?

How on earth is that fair ? If it was you and were booted because your connection was faulty and you lost I'm sure you'd be less then pleased, I know I would.

I dont agree with the booting...but is there some way that if a player goes "not responding" more than 5 times should be ejected...Its a very sensitive matter surrounding this one, the times where lowerd by nick already, I cant see it being reduced a furter time.

it isn't fair but some players do make they're connection go down just to spite other players.
nothing can be done about this
nothing can be done about this

I mean the same thing that happens when you're inactive for 20 mins or you play 5 random shots in a row, that thing.

It does get annoying when players don't respond. If they don't respond in over two minutes, then the game should be given to the opponent. Instead, it sometimes ends up in both players being DQed, and annoys the hell out of the opponent. I know it's not the unresponding person's fault, but that is the way it should go.

booting/removing is the same.. but its still unfair as some does respond again and keep playing.
This suggestion would not happen mate.

The system does give the responding opponent the win after the opponents Internet connection has gone down.
The system gives it about 2 minutes or less.

While I have no doubt some people can be lame enough to do just that, they are fortunately few and far between.
And in either case, you cannot tell whether people have legitimate connection problems or "voluntary" ones apart - so the only solution is to give them the benefit of the doubt.
This whole thing, relating to speed tournies, boils back down to the chess clock issue tho - we really need a solution where the slower player gets DQed if a match times out - not both.

I think the player should be booted tbh.
If it happens, you'd have to live it with, I'm sure if you were the person waiting having to sacrifice points or whatever, then you wouldnt be pleased..

It can be done in any tournament and it is unfair.
nothing can stop this unless there is no time to tournaments..
its unfair to everyone thats why this hasn't been added to the system

It does happen. If you lose connection for long enough you get logged out. Surely that is fair enough?
It is unfair to boot the player for genuinely having bad connection, but if the player loses connection and can't regain it inside the time given, then that is fair enough. I understand it's frustrating but I also understand that the other player is playing and deserves a chance. Not lose connection and your gone, that gives them no chance whatsoever.
I think it's fair the way it is. The problems you get with people being sad enough to use this tactic happens on a online game with so many users, and sadly is the card you're dealt.
Just think what goes around comes around.

There is a potential issue here with those users for whom the connection repeatedly drops for just a few seconds.
Perhaps if a user stops responding 5 times in a session they could be logged out?
If it's that regular they wont be making much of the game, and it would give them a chance to reboot/restart router/stop cat from chewing cable or whatever may help them get back to full strength.

I've dropped connection repeatedly in one match, maybe more than 5 times and I have managed to go on and win a tournament.
It's unfair, plain and simple. Your connection can improve in a click of your fingers, well speaking from my own past experience.
It's a bit like a natural disaster. It's not the players fault, they may well be trying their hearts out to carry on playing to just get through that one game, then fix it afterwards ready for the next match.
Being idle for 20 minutes or conceding 5 random shots is of your own doing and rightly gets punished.
Another way to look at it is an unwritten law of sportsmanship. If the match is heading for a double DQ, then the player who has had poor connection should put his/her hand up and let the opposition progress for causing the problem.

Yes, absolutely. This can happen from time to time and the moron with no chance of making progress cos his connection has slowed the game down will hang on anyway in the belief that a DQ-DQ at 0-0 or 1-0 down is a better result than if he/she leaves the room and sportingly concedes. But that's miles off topic.
In the particular case I moaned about at the top of this thread, the guy would be gone for 60 or 90 seconds at a time before resurfacing. This dragged what should have been a short game into round 2 of the speed tourney, forcing mass enforced resignation.

ok....i suppose i am going to be a bit of a breakaway here but I support spinners first idea of 5 drop outs gets you removed from the game.
sure, its not their fault if there is a bad connection, and sometimes they can fix it after that game; but there is always another tournament the next hour! and they same type of tournament three (or so) hours later!
Yeah, it would work the same if both were DQ'd, but why should the person with the good connection have to wait and wait and wait and then in most cases, both people are disqualified?
there is always another tournament the next hour. They can fix it in that hour, and play in the next one. Let the guy with a good connection go ahead.
If it was in a final however, I think that the time limit for a final should be unlimited as both players that reach the final should both have a go at the crown as they have made it that far.
And having a drop out limit of 5 per ROUND is VERY fair if you ask me and would not happen often at all
