How are the advertisers going to feel about not being shown to a lrge proportion of users. I'm assuming that the money collected from users wishing to get rid of the adverts would cover the reduction in income from the adverts I suppose.

Correct. Ads are typically based on hit count. Donation would cover that.

I would never pay to play this game if im honest, not that i dont like the game enough its worth it from fun and community perspective and its free game which is half the fun as it is today, the ads make the cash to fund the game then thats sound i suppose with the little issue of lag!!Lag todayis an issue with some users and ads can they be turned off as said by other users in other threads!

I have invested some money in a motorsport team for advertising, would funkypool be interested in something similar, i saw the other thread with a car pic with funky logo on the side and think it would be good!

Imagine the extra users with the logo on TV?

If you start charging you may get a few people to pay , but much less people will sign up in the future. This is because people like playing free games where no one has more priviledges than others.

Yet again i urge people to PLEASE READ NICKS FIRST POST BEFORE REPLYING.

dansier - nobody is talking about charging anything, meerly the option to donate towards the site if you want to, as many people have asked if they can in the past.

If you dont want to donate, nothing will change.

No if one person donates they would get no ads and if a 100 people donate they will get no ads...

I can remember seeing on the last page that you could have a limit on the amount of times considering the donation you made....

Some one might as well just copy and paste nicks post les hastle then

The exact structure of the system has not been mentioned, only ideas.

My sugestion was a time-based system as used in many forums. To take an example from a forum i subscribe to :

?5 - 1 month
?10 - 3 months
?15 - 9 months

And so on. People can then donate as much or as little as they want.

Edit ^^ That was a Euro symbol

brilliant idea only problem is there are younger kids like me aged 16, maybe even younger who may wish the ads to b removed and just like my mum id be unable to pay a anual fee to get rid of them.

so the idea of a donation is perfect as this means that no one will have to pay too much for the game (like most online games) and will still be able to enjoy the game.

Please remember my post above was just an idea, feel free to post your own, thats what the thread is for. Maybe a contribution system seen elsewhere?

The vital thing to remember is that the site/gameplay would carry on unaltered for anyone not chosing to pay/donate.

Maybe make an investors lounge in the game?

ON TOPIC, i'm all for donations, I wouldn't mind giving a little back for all the years this game has given me!

But if you make a donation and get no ads, its just the same as paying for extra priveledges.

Not at all.

This would just be an alternative option for those who want to give something directly, or who would prefer not to have ads displayed.

Might be a good time to repost Nicks starting post to keep things on track :

A while ago I decided to cancel the old plans to have a 2-tiered structure, free account and premium. I don't want to charge money for extra features, and my feelings remain the same.

However there's been some persistent feedback that some people would be happy to contribute a modest fee for services. In some cases people want to contribute, in other people don't wish to see adverts (they feel strongly against adverts or adverts interfere with gameplay due to their system setup).

I was also thinking I could completely remove the top part of the game window (with logo and advert) for such users gaining significant space.

Note I have no plans to change the current service or that a user will get any additional features.

I'm just after some feedback for now.

Nick

I'm strongly against a 2-tiered member structure. Adverts being removed would be the only benefit, but there would be no additional features.

Premium members would not get extra say in game development etc, or would it alter their chances of becoming a moderator!

I haven't even estimated a cost yet.

Not trying to ruin your idea about premium and removing adverts, but just a thought, people can just use ad-blockers and other things to remove the adverts and they wouldn't have to pay a cent. My thought is that you shouldn't start up premium.

There are a few preoblems with that Kindness.

Most importantly, use of ad blockers violates the sites Terms of Service and would lead to the users account being banned.

Ad blockers are just another program running in the background so introduce even more lag for people who have problems with it.

Nicks proposal would remove the advert and free up the space to expand the table for those having issues with that.
