Just wondering if anyone could give advice on the cheapest domain registrars or whatever they are called lol - im starting to develop a text based game with php and don't want to be using one of those sub domains.
Also wondering if anyone knows how to go about actually raising some income for the website (e.g. ads etc), because i presume if I am serious about it I will need to pay for a domain name, a hosting plan that isn't free (therefore isn't limited to stupidly low traffic allowances etc)..
I'm just stuck, and really want things to happen when my production, is produced Hah

income for website- you can have those referral things where people just see an ad for like phone with free ps3 and click it. Because they click off your site if they buy you get a %.
You can do it with loads of different companies and anytime anyone buys something from them and they clicked off your site you get cash.
Obviously, you wont make much of that unless your site gets a lot of traffic.
.co.nr is what nicknax league is on.......maybe thats worth checking out with him....im sure he said it was free

I'm guessing I'd have to approach companies and offer to advertise?
I thought it would be something like that, but nice to discuss it lol..
Yeah I actually use .co.nr at the moment for the site where i practice my scripts and code etc, but all it really does it redirect you to your sub domain (for example stu'site.atwebpages.com) (and btw thats not actually a site lol). That is unless you use cloaking, which simply makes every page have .co.nr at the end, which wouldn't be good if someone wanted to copy a link to a page because it would say stu'spage.co.nr instead of say, stu'spage.co.nr/page6.php?
Damn this is turning into an essay description lol, but basically wanted something more professional, but I would probably just start off with .co.nr

Tbh Stu mate - Wait till it's all done. Buying it now and you don't get the game finished will be a blow and a waste of an domain
Give it a think...

I use 1&1 internet for my domains. I moved to them mainly for reliability and ease of use, but the prices are excellent too and customer service has been spot on.
Everything can be managed from a browser which is more handy than you would expect, and currently .co.uk domains are £2.99 a year, though they often have special offers etc.

The_hunter - I agree with you with waiting, I'm just kinda planning ahead. If I can get good knowledge of where to go and that my search wont be so hard when the time comes
2.99's the cheapest i've heard of as from now lol, most places i've looked (tbh i haven't looked that hard) are about 10 quid up from that.
I wouldn't have a problem paying it at all - if the service was reliable and that, and if I could atleast break even from having ads and stuff, which I don't know how likely that would be.

Yeah, I know sites with same price. It's not really a thing you should pay for in advance. I really think you should only buy it when you know that you will finish it.
Just my advice.

Ah, .co.cc sounds a bit like .cc So maybe I'd prefer to use that rather than .co.nr Thanks by the way mate
At the minute I use lead hoster, which supports PHP and Mysql, but not sure that the database and all that would be large enough to support what I plan to do

Eventualy i may think about getting a domain.

What for? Lol
And Tom, is 'co.cc' not just a sort of cloaking, redirecting domain name? Or does it offer web space too?
Any way I could turn my old system into a web server ? Haha
