Gonna have to go with Janmb on this one. Microsoft just doesnt patch IE enough to fix all of its flaws. and due to its popularity its the most flawed. FF is much better and the FF3 loads faster then FF2. Now if only FF had more of its core essentials loaded with windows then it would load even faster. FF FTW!!

I only started using firefox because IE kept popping up messages about javascript errors and stuff, and back then I didn't have a clue what javascript was - but now I'm a fan of firefox so use it.

Though I have IE and Opera, so that if theres a problem with FF i can check if its a browser problem, or just have them as back up

I post from fearitself i'm affraid he doesn't have posting rights at the moment but he really wants to get this messege across

I have used many browsers in the past, IE, Firefox, Opera, Epiphany, Avant, Maxthon, but in all honesty, nothing beats good ol' Links2.

Links2 is made for the Linux/Unix operating system and is text based, it will load pages faster than you have ever seen before, literally about 0.1 seconds. The downfall with it is, you cannot see all the graphical things as in Firefox/IE/Opera. Although you can see Images, pretty much everything else is just in plain text. Navigation bars (like the one on the far left of this page) are in link format, but you won't see the nice blue box around the outside.

It's good if you don't mind how a page looks, and want to get things done quickly.

If anyone here uses Linux, just open up a terminal and type in the following command to download and install it.

sudo apt-get install links2

It will auto install it for you :)

----------------

End of post.

Thanks a lot if you could do this for me Pro_i_am, because I really want to get the word out there for Links2, its amazing!

:)

It's fast because it's text based :S right?

That is assuming a lot about which distro you are using, but yes links is a good alternative for certain uses.

As others have already pointed out tho, there's no magic to it. It's fast because it downloads no graphics at all. (conrary to filters etc, where the graphics DO get downloaded, just not displayed).

Then again, pretty much an obsolete story really, since most modern pages ARE based on fluffy stuff like Flash, Java (!), PhP etc etc, and more importantly - are useless if parsed as text only.

Besides, if you do use web pages that make sense in a pure text version they are generally so light-weight that using a regular browser will be fast as lightning too.

I think this is an appropriate time to mention RSS feeds. Most of the time these are just simplified versions of the sites contents in a largely text based format so you get the nuts and bolts ASAP.

Useful if using public/pay by byte wireless services when on the move.

This is the first machin in a while i haven't kept a copy of Opera 2.12. I always kept images off, it didnt alow popups (except very old HTML driven ones, rare now) so was lighning fast for reading news sites etc, which tend do be advert dominated now.

Anyways, main reason for this post is Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 is now on general release. And i like it. I've been using Beta 1 on my test machin at work for a couple of months and its been rock solid if somewhat buggy in the rendering dept, but beta 2 is nice and slick.

However, as with all beta's, use at your own risk!

I was a fan of Opera when using windows, however Swiftfox has always been my number one. Because Firefox is open source, developers were able to use the source code, cut it down and develop a firefox version with much improved speed. A quick google search will find it.

Now a Mac user, I started off with Safari. I found it had too many problems and now use Firefox.
