The number next to the name is how many tournaments that person has won from the past.

Marathon tournaments include more frames in order to win a match.
Make sure you have the time to complete one!

i agree with 007 jb1 there should be a newbies tourny or a intermediate tourny so it stops good players having a near enough straight coast to the semi's or final

As said here, the same process would happen with newbie tournys. There is nothing stopping pros resetting to become a newbie to win even more tournys.

yes but if every pro kept resetting the highest rank might soon be somtin like 705 or somethin
or the highest rank might belong to someone who has not logged in for years

Remove the option of resetting at all - problem solved.
Yes, it leads to a few new ones, but at least the ladders would be a bit more consistant, and accounts that are clearly, deliberately created by pros to cicrumvent their status as pros could be singled out and banned.

removing the reset option is a bad idea as many pro's might not be happy with there win loss ratio and then would be stuck in the mud and the only way out would be to delete there account which i wouldn't do if you post on the forum often

The ratio is what you have accomplished over time - no more - no less. If you are unhappy with it, you should have played better.
*I* am far from happy with my win rate, but that doesn't mean I think I should be able to reset to cover up my old, bad results and start over fresh.
If it had been technically possible, and up to me, people would get to create a single, life time account, with no way of erasing old scores what so ever. No worries tho, it's far from technically doable, nor is it up to me ;)

Even that isn't an option anymore, not until a year has passed
