why not to stop fake newbies we get rid of the rank reset button then have trusted non admin and mod staff working 2 report peopl that have deleted der account and made a new one? but the people doing the recording would have to have a perfect record of course.

so if your a 630 in all the accounts, you wouldnt want them to reset?
its good in some ways (like that)...thats why they have kept it. Otherwise you get double the amount of accounts we already have!

Well I dont know how many users there are now...say 90,000, with about 100,000 accounts in total.
A team of around 20 mods have enough to do already.
Also there's nothing wrong with deleting and starting again, there could be a number of reasons for doing so.

THAT is a matter of opinion, but as long as there is no realistic way of preventing people from doing it if they choose to, any debate on whether or not it should be that way is pretty pointless.

its not really pointless.....the nominating the 9 ball thread is more pointless than this thread lol.
but like I siad before, if we didnt have the 'reset stats' option, we would have twice as many accounts as we have today...

The reset option is a relatively new feature introduced so that people didnt have to delete/recreate their accounts to reset their stats, and as such has certainly done some good.
Whilst some people like to play for rank, or to win tournaments, other like to challenge themselves or opponents to race to professional or virtuoso rank in minimum time or number of games, or to see how high they can get over a set number of games, etc etc.
To say these people dont have the right to enjoy the game in that manner makes it just as acceptable for them to say people shouldnt be allowed to play tournaments.

hey guys ........... its aimed more at the 850's going for the perfect account 100 wins to 0 lossed or the high ranked players that reset after a bad day ......... or giving up..
an idea could be after you reach a certain rank make it that you cant say 750 after that u cant reset .... im fully agreeing with nz_angel if high ranks want to reset make them play other high ranks.. say if they were 800 or high make them stick to the 800 plus players stop being chikckens and playing the people where there are no compition.. its frustating when ur like 850 playing people that are 830 or something and play like 730's its jsut plain stupid

I have a great idea.
Why not just play the game and not care about rank?
I've found that you get a bit stressed more if you play for rank and is the principle reason for being called fluke etc.
You're more likely to be branded a fluke in a ranked match than a friendly, even if it was the same shot!!!

the problem with the mr_mcquiston is what about tournaments if someone has reset from high and it says newbie then people thing they are.

This is off track Spinner.
The core of this issue is that the ranking system is balanced around the notion of players playing more or less of the rank that corresponds to their ability as a player. When you reset rank, you play on a rank that is massively lower than your ability. This in turn is directly unfair to any player you play against, because their rank will hurt unjustified from it.
What do you think the rest of the elite would think about Tiger Woods resetting his golf handicap to 18? This is no different - it's exactly the same thing in every single way.
So no, as long as the rank system is designed as it is, people shouldn't have any right to play on an artificially low rank.
Just like the rules for adjusting a golf hcp UP are strict as hell, no one cares the other way.

That other thread is a concrete suggestion that, contrary to this, CAN be implemented.
This one unfortunately can't.

Which is why we have both options available in the first place
Those who want a completely relaxed gaming experience play friendlies - the more competitively minded play for rank.
And right in the middle you have people like me, who like to play for rank, but do so without making a big deal out of it. I have no idea how many points I've thrown away by playing drunk lol - to the point where the opponent got embarrased
My theory is just to play - and the weighting makes sure you end up and whatever rank you deserve over time. Sometimes you are lucky in playing someone having a bad day, other days it's the other way around.
Reset is the only thing standing in the way of that attitude.

Completely agree with you on the general idea, but your conclusion is a bit upside down. Playing other high rank players is the safe road and one that will never cost a high rank player any much points. Playing low ranks on the other hand is what's risky.
In essence, if you play on a higher rank than you deserve, you WILL lose points regardless of playing high ranks or lowbies, but because of the up-and-coming player factor, you will hurt moe from playing low/mid rank opponents than high ones.
The same goes for any player of any rank that is playing at the correct level as well - the scary opponents are in the lower segment, not the upper end.

aftersome careful consideration ive thought mayb a better option is to make itso you cant reset your rank if you have one game at pro rank. it would say people saying newbie and playingas a pro.

Any mechanism that prevents stat resets is moot as long as there is no realistic way of preventing people from creating new accounts.

Yes but if someone has a high rank whats the point in resetting or making a new account? if the rank is really low then understandable but if its high i dont see the point.

Because, as stated above, some people like to see how quickly they can reach professional, virtuoso, or some other specified rank, either time wise or by number of games.
Others like to set a win percentage target for a specified numebr of games etc, and some people just enjoy the challenge of starting from scratch.
These are just different ways of playing the game in the same way as ranked, friendly and tournaments are.

It may be against some peoples usual way of checking whether they wish to play one another etc...
But... Don't forget you can see whether a user has reset their stats by going to the 'history' section under the 'events' tab.
Therefore you wouldn't have the problem of being 'tricked' into playing a player who seems to be ranked in a way which would not reflect his/her skills.
