I know what you mean mate!

I get it on my break sometimes....

Possibly random? I dont know...

I can never do it on purpose though...

Oh well, glitch maybe?

It depends on how you hit it, where you it hit and the spin!

Occasionally, you get a bug on the break, probably related to the massive amount of ball interaction in a very short amount of time. Those are clearly distinguishable by one or more balls suddenly getting far higher than normal speed, typically late in the break and is probably not what you are talking about here.

When it comes to the reaction you get from hitting the rack, it pretty much boils down to what Steven said - it all depends exactly how you hit, how the particular rack is (there are minute random differences from rack to rack to prevent people from learning 100% failsafe golden breaks, just like would been the case in real life too), as well as the precise spotting of your cueball as well as the spin you apply.

In general tho, a clean hit without spin gets a lot more power transfered from the cue than a spin shot does, but does not necessarily create more ball action within the rack - top spin allows the cueball to transfer a lot more of its energy to the other balls.

try going to your control panel and speeding up your mouse movement, makes it a bit harder to aim though

Seems we are on the subject I think it would be a good idea, when we advance in rank our break power should be more or less.

like steven said "It depends on how you hit it, where you it hit and the spin!"

Seriously speeding up your mouse makes a difference. Go to control panel and change how fast it moves. Only makes since you could get max power that way.

Depends entirely on whether your current cursor speed allows you to fill the power indicator or not (the bar to the right of the table)

If you fill the bar, you are hitting at maximum power and increasing mouse resolution won't help you at all.

In fact, it's a good advice to play with as LOW mouse speed as possible (which means the minimu speed needed for your hard hits to actually hit max power)

This leaves more aiming precision and length control on weaker shots.

As long as you reach maximum power when moving the mouse as fast as you can (or are comfortable with), your mouse speed is high enough and should, if anything at all, be lowered.

One thing I'd like to mention.

You can't hit at max power with full top spin

(or side spin either)

Correct

This is simple physics... The total energy in the cue is fixed, and the more spin you apply, the less total energy is left to be transferred as ball motion.

Or to put it another way, the more spin, the less speed (and vise versa)

The spin will have similar effect regardless of where you aim, but the aim matters a lot too. Generally anything slightly off sender or more is good, but if you want accurate examples, there are plenty on youtube.
