i guess im contradicting myself here cause im happy with the rank system but.......
when 2 players of the same rank play each other points gained are as follow........
8 ball uk - winner gets 2.5
8 ball us - winner gets 3
9 ball us - winner gets 3.5
i would expect 9 ball to get the least due to the fact the match legnth is generally much shorter, an also there is a much greater element of luck then uk and us 8 ball.
Can any one enlighten me to why it is calculated like this, regardless to whether id want it ammending or not........cheers

sorry spinner but that didnt answer my question, thats where i got my information from for the post..........it doesnt explain why 9 ball gets the most points when both players are the same rank when clearly this discipline takes least time to get rank up due to short match legnth and big luck factor

The games are played seperately and the rankings tables are also seperate from game type to game type. Therefore the differenciating ranking scales dont actually affect anything...

why did i lose 4.09 points to someone ranked 780 !!!!! that aint right, if they was 680 then yeh, but to someone 780, i lost to someone else other day who was 685 ish and lost 5 points, so theres summit wrong with the 780 points loss

Yeah it does seem a bit backward...
Like others have pointed out, this has no relevance to anything in terms of balance, but it would make sense to use that factor based on average game time in the respective game types...
Just like you get a ton of points for each snooker game too - just because those games are generally much longer.
In the end tho, all it affects is how volatile or static the ranking ladders are - seen up against the daily reductions of course.

The thing is, it is proven that they work.
Regardless of how many you win/lose against what ever ranks, the evidence is there in the form that no player(s) have reached the absolute extremes of the ranking spectrum.

Depends on how you define something that works I guess...
The 9 ball ladder IS a lot more volatile than the other two, for better or worse - which is also why the peak ranks is a good bit higher there.
Not that it has any real consequence tho - edge mod overcomes quite large imbalances between daily reductions vs. rank gains so it doesn't really matter.

The weightings are chosen to try and get the players rankings distributed across the range.
So, despite it being true that 9 ball games are quicker, there is also more luck involved, which makes it more difficult to get to the higher rankings.
My approach was to watch what happens and set this weighting accordingly.
