the point is this, say tou are on the black,it is covering the pocket and lets say the red solid is covering the black totally ,both balls are so tight one of you risk losing by a foul, hence both players keep doing deliberate fouls,it could be a long night, what are the rules and if there is nobody would follow them

That has to be one of the worst situations!

Has happened me a few times, if I'm not on the black I will try to tap the other ball out slightly and get a snooker behind it.

Although in some situations this doesn't work because it's impossible to hit it without the black going in.

Guess it just comes down to who gets bored quicker.

Or you could get a re-rack button, but that would be annoying if there are only two balls left on the table.

it can be quite skillful at times but rerack would be the only possible solution otherwise

If it were in a tourney, it would be even more fun due to the time limit.

Sooner or later, someone would have to try something, as if they dont, both players would be disqualified.

Brilliant when that happens.

Personally, you see the true player spirit and ability come out, i've done it purposefully one or two times, but it's not cheating, it's a tactic...and a very annoying, funny one!

I think we need a new rule to combat that situation.

Deliberate fouls have become an everyday part of the tactics of 8 ball and, sportsmanship-wise, that can't be right. I'd like to see a free-ball rule brought in. Not two shots, as in UK, but the right to hit any ball after an opponent's foul (so in the scenario above for example, you could just play the covering ball to pot the 8 ball)

Even if it were only applied to air-shots where no ball is hit, it would end 90% of the stalemates.
