I have played a few people in the past few days especially in the 8 ball games who are just to defensive....always just tapping the balls then knocking them in when the opponett has his down.

I know that we have speed tournaments and things like that, but is there any other way to advertise more attacking, open play?? The tournament games I have played recently is just.....boring. Thats why I am a 9 ball guy.

Anything we can do at all. Sure, they are with in the rules and they arnt doing anything wrong....but we need more attacking playing for these boring tactics.

these people are going for snookers every single shot (I tried to leave out the term snooker but now its been used). It is a boring tactic that takes up to much time.

I find it OK to snooker if it is dead vital to stay in the tournament or winning the tournament but these guys are doing it every shot...I am not the only person who is getting sick of it...I have been chatting to another couple of people.

It's about knowing your limitations. If i don't think i'll clear up then i will make sure my opponent won't either.

I pesonally love the tactical part of the game, although it's a bit hard on UK 8ball, because of the free ball AND carry rule. Of which is in neither of the official rules - world rules (WEPF) or blackball (WPA). So don't have a scooby what to do half the time.

Yes, I agree with you there 100% but there has to be a way to entice more attacking shots. If anything could be done, some rules would have to change.

My stand is clear. In a game of real pool, people have their game styles. On internet pool, people shouldnt be playing for sheep stations, should be attacking and a free flowing game.

mate . what 10,000 plus members have to deal with the same thing. im sure they wont change it becuse one person is unhappy.

i personally like players who try and snooker me it gives me a chance to get somthing out of nothing. no point crying about it.

This is my first post precisely because id love if more people played defensively.

Constant trying to pot is boring and kills the game. Snookers add fun, tactics and realism to the experience. How can simple ball potting match the sense of ahievement gained from a three snooker win for example?

I'm all for more attacking play - but attacking with snookers.

players will play this game how ever they want, you cant force players to attack in games, we have 100.000 users on here would you like to take the time out and tell everyone they cant play safety shots lol.

What is now a rule in english pool is introducing that a ball must hit the cushion (unless a full ball snooker), this reduces players tapping up behind balls, this encourages more attacking play. Without taking out the tactical side of the game. This has been a world rules rule for years and the other lot have recently introduced this in the last year.

This all just mindless conversation, i'd be well against any rule changes on here.

Other ways that could encourage more attacking play is to allow an open table after the break like it is in real pool (blackball rules), often you pot a certain colour off break and they are all tied up and the other colours are sitting nice.

It's very hard to split the pack, making it easier to split the pack would open the game up completely.

Just to be clear I'm not suggesting these, just ways that the game can encourage more attacking play.

aflumpire I agree with you 100%. UK8 is almost unplayable for me now, the mindset is safety first until they get two shots. US9 is getting really boring too with people playing for 3 fouls which is ridiculous as any one shot can win you the game.

Definitely got worse over the last year IMO.

Safety play is a HUGE part of my gameplay .

I do well getting out of snookers, and dont mind in the slightest if ppl do the tapping....

It adds an interest and challenge to an otherwise boring game...

If the rules were changed at all, I dont think I would go very far, as I have adapted to a snookering lifestyle .

The only reason you are against it, is because if you give away a carry, you are likely to lose the game...

You cant win everything afl, so get used to it!

I have got where I am by playing tactically, which is interesting and useful for me...

If you dont like it, dont play it!

Maybe if you tried this tactic yourself, you would find it works, and play that style yourself m8!

But it is a playing style, and nothing will ever make me change playing defensively...

agree with the large majority of people about safety play- stop creating threads which are open for discussion to pros and cons if you cant take hearing the cons

basically the tactic is very effective possessed by quality players like febreze and onua

febreze!? didn't know he was defensive, yeah either like it or lump it! Personally, in UK fair enough that is a defensive game but not the other two!

Well i dont play that much now, but my tactic has always been to watch the other player, and play the opposite.

If they're an attacking player, i play safe, if they're a safety player, i take every chance i get for a wild shot.

The mind games are the most fun part. Take the other player out of their comfort zone and you're halfway there
