Enter here.
I call it mad because there's no limit on entries, and if, say, 26 people take part, we'll enter 26 people into rd 1, then 13 into rd 2 and one will get a bye, then 7 in rd 3 and 1 will get a bye, etc. I.e. everyone or everyone minus 1 will play in every round, whatever the number of competitors.
UK 8 ball, first to 3, sign up here. Entries will close when people stop signing up. Open draw, no seeding, although the number of byes will be spread as evenly as possible, including byes where players are DQ'ed.
And I'm first in
Oh! And every round must be completed in 7 days!

6, not bad...
Prefarebly though, the number of players will be a number greater then 1.5 times (2 to the power of some integer n), and less than or equal to 2 to the power of n+1. Anyone explain why? Clue: it's to do with the semi-finals.

GIVE THAT MAN A MEDAL!!!
That's exactly correct; provided the number of qualifiers from round to round remains unadulterated by any DQ-DQ, then numbers of entrants that are 4, 7-8, 13-16, 25-32, 49-64, etc will produce four semi-finalists. But if the number of entrants is 5-6, 9-12, 17-24, 36-48, etc then there'll be three semi-finalists, with either 5 or 6 players in the round before that.
3 in the semis is of no critical consequence, but it would lead to the bizarre situation of giving someone a bye at that late stage. But more than likely there'll be an different number of byes already given to the others. "The number of byes will be spread as evenly as possible", so if two of the semi-finalists already got byes, the third would automatically get straight through to the final.
