I think that something could be done to optimize the 8 Ball UK Marathon Tournament, so that it could become the big main Funky Pool tournament.

The marathon tourney has the potential to become "the big one" if you will. As to what could be done to make it more prestigious I'm not sure: moving the time to when the most amount of people enter tournaments, maybe only one every two days or awarding players who win it ie on the profile or something.

I have been thinking about somethin similar colins.

I would like to run some one-off tournaments.

Call it a mega-marathon if you will!

These could be every few days, or at weekends, or at varying pre-announced times.

However, i think it a shame that the winners of such tournaments would recieve "just another tourney win"

I would like to be able to add to a persons profile that they had won a special event.

Would people like this? Any suggestions of how to go about the profile additions?

i would love a double elimination tornament if thats something your thinking of for the profile addition i say put it after tornament wins and call it "special tornament wins" or something like that

A reverse marathon tourny would be interesting.

1st to 5 - Round 1
1st to 4 - Round 2
1st to 3 - Round 3
1st to 2 - Round 4-Semi
1 win - Final

Would annoy the hell out of someone gettin a run out or GB vs them in a final lol but would still be good

Each round is a random game type.

This would be for those allrounders

A super marathon!

1st to 5 in first round, each round gets 1 more win needed.

(That could be a 1st to 11 in the final lol)

If they were only held once a month or so, the name of the tourny could be put on the user's profile.

How about a super marathon tourney played over the course of one week every month - one round per night/day - games could be first to anything in theory - maybe 11 like squeezy says, or more, or less.

The draw for each round would take place at a set time each day say 8 pm UK - anyone through to that round but not online at that time would be dq'd as they are currently.

I am sure this would appeal to those that like the idea of long games for the best players to prevail but without necessarily having to commit youself for more than an hour each day.

But that means you would have to commit yourself for a week at a certain time...dunno bout you but I have to go to work an go out an enhoy myself on some nights

a tourny winners tournament is still the best thing that could be brought in tho squeezys idea of an all rounder tournament is good too as i love all rounder tournys in the unofficial leagues.

But i agree that if u win a tourny of these types you should get a seperate stat rather than a tourny win.
Speed tournys should also be a seperate stat in my opinion.

The stats page that has been mentioned before would be a good idea also for people who like more detailed stats.

New tournys that come in ie a super marathon or reverse marathon should definitly get their own stats tho if none of the above can happen

first uk 8ball
second 9ball
third 8ball
and so on till final!just a thought tell me what everyone thinks plz

I still think a normal tournament maybe a bit longer than marathon, like that super marathon, but optimized so that it would attract large participation with a seperate stat on profile is the best.

Mixed games will turn away some players and playing a tourney over a week is a bit much though, who is free every night of the week!?!

We may try a reverse tournament this weekend, i really like that idea

There is no problem having a super-marathon, but some technical work would need to be done to have multiple game tourneys, though i've always thought that would be fun.

What about the seperate stats page on our profiles, and have say something like, (special events won) which will be these special tournements that could be introduced in the future, or something along them lines?

I think thats probably the best option.

There is plenty on the profile as it is. There have been plenty of suggestions for additional stats, so perhaps a record of special event wins would be best suited there.

Each would still count as a tournament win, but there could be a permanent record similar to the rolling events page with "30/08/07 - Won super mega 4 day UK 8 ball tournament*."




* note, that exact tournament is not likely to happen

For me it already is... When I look at the list of tournament winners and I see the UK 8 ball one, I play with the URL and look at the winners from previous days. A best of 3 tournament is always more of a test than a best of 2 tournament. Even if you get byes to the quarterfinals you've got to win 12 frames to win it, as opposed to 7 in the other tourneys. When I win a marathin tourney I'll be happy. (And if I win a second I'll be happier!)

I like the idea of having all 3 game types thrown into 1 tourny!

Infact i like all the ideas, would make a change to having the same tourny types over and over again!

Great idea in order for it to be "The Big one" Then i reckon it would be a great idea if it was only available to join once a week and the winner gaining some ranking points or a medal icon or somthing next to there name. it has to be one of the longest tournys on here so being awarded for wining 1 is a great idea

Thats another idea, maybe have ranked tournaments ones a week or twice a week or something?
