Was thinking las night as me and clooneman sat and waited to see if toontomh's status would change from browsing to chat room how great an idea i had had.
We needed him to log in so we can proceed to the semi finals of the all rounder tournament but he obviusly didnt go on that thread and see.
So we thought it might be a good feature to be able to send someone a message that they could read on their account.
Dont know how hard this would be to do but we both had different ideas.
I was thinking along the lines of faceparty etc where your home screen has a my messages bit and any correspondance off other people or admin etc went to.
Clooneman thought maybe just a little pop up at the top window of your homepage saying "madmiketyson you have a message from clooneman" etc.
That way when someone is browsing but you need them to log in they get some kind of alert.
Either way would be awesome and im sure could be used for many things other than getting someone to play a game

such as mods needing to contact admin, fjs reminding other fjs about things they need to go on
and probably a lot more.

Nice idea! I totally agree with it and it's a good feature to add, could get a little out of hand because people may start spamming by sending unnecessary E-Mails nevertheless I do like the idea!

Although i like the idea, i have resivatons due to souljahs point about spamming. It was discussed a while back and i think the majority thought it was a good idea, however the issue of spamming (which us mods will get) is too much a problem.

The only thing i can think of is that only people on your friends list can leave messages? However this could still leave mods and admin more work!

I see your point and tho i like the idea..You wud get ppl leaving crazy messages etc etc and some of us HAVE had stalkers !!
What about a reminder thread? We have one on fun and games..all the FJ's Check that. Maybe Tell whoever you need to then create the thread.

A private message service like most php message boards have is a good idea. Spamming is at a minimum, I guess if you're a mod you're more likely to get more messages but the majority of users wouldn't suffer from spamming. Instead of only allowing friends to message you can get round that by having an "ignore user" or "add to pest list" button to stop stalkers or people you can't be arsed with.

I think you should only be allowed to send a limited amount of E-Mails a day, therefore this would prevent spamming? Still could get totally out of hand and a lot of work for moderators and administrators...That's one of the suggestions that may (may not) prevent spamming if madmiketyson's idea is taken further

why not only allow friend to friend messages... so if two users have added each other as friend then they are allowed to exchange messages, therefore if someone starts spamming you, you could just remove them from your friend list.

it's quite clear some people don't know what I mean. I post at a few different message boards (or forums) and when you log in you have a message facility if you choose to use it.

What this would entail is on a persons profile you'd have a "PM" button or be able to PM someone by searching for their name.

If there is this facility I see no reason why you should have a limit to the number of messages you can send in a day and with an ignore button or a delete button you could remove unwanted posts.

Surely everyone here has to deal with email spam on a daily basis? How difficult is it to delete and not read? Aside from that I don't see how spamming would be an issue anyway unless you get some proper saddos but then you block them.

Maybe it should be available to people who have won 100 games like forum posting in order to stop spamming n00bs.

I think its an excellent idea, but would take a lot of work to set up and we all know how 'busy' Nick can be.

Bebo style messaging between friends would be an idea. Although the friends list would need to be bigger than the 20 it is now.

Lets face it, its never going to happen. The only chance it has is being part of the ever elusive premium......

Could be implemented, but the mail that get sent over will have to be viewed and logged for us to see and make sure no rule breaking is going on. I would like this feature to come in, but won't , unless it comes with premium.

itd be nice for premium if you could send messages but the system would have to be brought in for everyone to recieve them otherwise it would be fairly pointless as not everyone will have premium.
as for the logging of mail for mods to view that shouldnt be too hard.
More work for mods tho so maybe that would equal more mods?

Offline messages have long been talked about (as mentioned before) and Nick has certainly taken the ideas on board.

The "friends only" system is a good idea, with the option of recieving messages from anyone if you want.

A "send complaint" would be essential and then anyone abusing the system can have it removed in a similar fashion to a forum posting revoke (or more serious action if required).
