Was wondering if the idea of muting members for a given time rather than booting might be helpful. Keep the boots for more major circumstances but have this as a lesser option. For example stupid spamming sessions that people go on... if they were muted for a good number of hours instead of being booted. This may in turn lead to members being muted for longer than a boot world be put into place...

Don't know how much people would like this idea but thought I would mention it anyway...(Plus would give mods another button to play with as we all know you like them so much.)

nice idea _aphrodite_ but i think the current system is far more effective and works far better than if your idea was implemented.

In fairness, mods/admin go by number of complaints they get relating to an individual and boot accordingly.

However they only act on complaints received, but this does not reflect the number of incidents.

For instance, if 2 players were to have a history, and abuse each other accordingly, one could trap the other by engaging in a slagging match but not respond with any abuse of their own, thus taking it all and then sending a complaint, thus looking like the victim. Im sure it happens.

i like the mute button, as I think booting is harsh in some cases..

You'd also have to think about where the 'line' would be between muting and booting...Could cause confusion.

Nice idea nevertheless Em, I have to say that it does works well on other sites, so it might work here .

I like this idea - in my opinion a lot of the "booting" cases have been really un fair. Just now someone got booted for speaking in another language! I think in cases like that, the mute button would work really well.

(But then again, some "boots" were really well deserved )

I like this idea but i dont like this idea.
Some players like to use abit of good old banter and also if in a private game the more mature players seem to use offensive language ( not in a bad way ).

Maybe just having this in the chatrooms would be better if it would be possible

Yeah course I just think it might be a nice alternative to the use of booting in the chatrooms. I could be wrong but I believe the larger number of boots happen in chatrooms rather than in game anyway. Therefore it would not effect that unless someone complained and then that would be the same type of situation that there is now with booting surely?

Muting and booting is the same in my book. Muting for a couple of hours and booting for a couple of hours is the same. I think booting is suitable for chat. Maybe if we had more control over bootings it would make it better. I take it you are getting the idea if muting from Runescape?

Well if you're still allowed on the game, isn't really a punishment. In my view booting is good and doesn't need altering. Do you mean in the game window or the game like looking at Forums etc?

Sorry Em..i agree with Hunter.
If they are doing things like spamming, they are obvioulsy not interested in the game anyway!
Therefor good enough to Mute = good enuff to boot.

That My opinion anyway.

I strongly agree with the_hunter...no point muting...Although, you did have a good point _aphrodite_ but I think it's fine the way it is

Simply, if it isn't broke...don't fix it.

I like it the way it is now, muting members would be a lot more confusing in my opinion.

Well said and true say mr_mcquiston, it was a good suggestion _aphrodite_, but I don't think the suggestion should be taken into consideration

I'll take a slight twist on this.

I understand where you are coming from with the muting idea, but the current booting system works well both in removing unwanted players from chat (if they were only muted in chatrooms they could still abuse via PM or in game) but more importantly by removing them from the game as punishment.

I would feel very cheated if someone who broke the rules was allowed to carry on in a tournament i was in, for example.

The twist i was thinking of was that those who are booted should also be "muted" from posting on the forums until thier boot time is up.

Thus serving as more of a deterrent and preventing unwanted rants by abusive users on the forum (though these are rare now).
