i think its unfair that if you snooker someone in 9 ball and they know if they miss then you would have a fairly easy combination pot on for the 9 ball, that they can just pot the 9 ball toget it respotted and not lose anything???!!!

hi deadend, i can see your point, no different to delibrate fouls in 8ball to clear a pocket

yeah. I do that all the time.

Its a tactical move and a part of the game.

If it is changed well I will never play on here again!

Deliberate fouls of this nature are allowed in professional 9 ball though.

Then the rule should stay.

It goes some way to combatting the luck factor in 9 ball and I can remember several occasions where I've been fluked in a pretty much impossible snooker with the 9 ball sitting over a pocket. I like the option to sink the 9 ball!

Yeah i've used this tactic before, and i have no problem with another player using it against me!

Smart move, i've done it a fair few times as well.
Another good strategy is pinning the black near a pocket with a covering ball, it makes it tough, and if they foul you can double your ball onto the black and pot it.

it's not a good strategy with me because I'd just sink the 9!

Good strategy if you can do it when your opponent is on 2 fouls.

*edit - I assume you mean the 9 ball not the black ball?

As I said..good stratergy, nick says it should be in.

And so what...someone sinks the 9 ball? Its a floul so you can do whatever you want with the ball then! (as in put it anywhere on the table)

Exactly, it's a calculated risk.

While we're on the subject, what is the rule about where the 9 ball is replaced? It seems to be placed about 2 inches from the spot at 10 o'clock. I thought it would go on the spot and snooker rules if a ball is covering?

The slight misplacing of the 9 on a respot was reported a long time ago, but i thought it had been fixed.

Does this happen every time?

ive found a few websites that have it that if you pot the 9 ball you automatically lose but i like the respotting.

Also another good stratergy is if there is a group of balls close together and there are other balls surrounding it if you don't want to break them up just pot the white

deliberately potting the white without moving balls is a negative shot choice though and when you play those they have a habit of coming back and biting you on the balls.

i also do that sometimes.

just tactics and thats what makes 9 ball so good. There is no other pool game wher u can derlibatly pot the 'golden ball' without losing (unless you talk about the black in snooker)

keep it as it is and happy 9 'balling'
